What do you mean by "tune-up"??? If I'm correct, you are talking about tweaking. You can "Tune-up" or tweak any radio in the world, but why you'd want to bother tweaking a hand-held is a bit beyond me. However, if the hh is out of the box, it's set to factory specs, which never are optimum. So, take it to someone who knows what they are doing and bring your mod and power up to max, maxing out everything beyond factory specs. Then, you can always add crystals, side bars, half-channels, anything you want, but why? Unless you are somehow running the transceiver off a linear, what's the purpose? Not trying to be rude here, but just curious. -Jeeem-

Try a bigger antenna as a tune up can not give much.

I can't get my walkie talkie to go it's full 20 miles its only reaches maybe 3 miles or so it dont make any scence to me. also how can i comunicate with cb's in semi's

The distance claims made by FRS/GMRS radio manufacturers are fairy tales. The frequencies that these radios operate on are line-of-sight only, meaning that ANYTHING between the radios (buildings, hills, trees, etc.) will block the signals. Unless you're transmitting from one hilltop to another, with nothing between the two, 2 to 3 miles is the maximum effective distance for any of these radios.

On your other question, FRS/GMRS radios and CB radios operate on different frequencies bands, so you cannot communicate between the two types of radios. In order to communicate with CB radio operators, you will need a CB radio.

One of my midland lxt 420 walkie talkies wont charge!!!!!

If it has rechargable batteries in it like mine does, the batteries have probably lost all of its life.. you can replace them.. if you dont have batteries, you could have a loose wire inside the walkie talkie that wont let it charge..

How do I make it work

It depends on the channels on the walkie talkies.

Can you supply the frz range of the TRC, and walkie talkies make and model and I will try and get the frez on the channels for you.

I can then tell if it will work or not.

Walky talky

A walkie talky as we called them, back when we were younger - and hell we probably still do in some respects, hence the fact my friend still refers to her cordless phone as a "walkie talky" and the principals haven't changed that much.

The common old Walkie Talky or CB radio use what we call a half duplex, that means only one person can talk at a time. We are talking and listening on the same channel.

Cell phones are full duplex, meaning two way conversation, and this is simply listening on one channel whilst talking on another, so the basic principal is basically the same, just a little more sophisticated.

Walkie-talkie typically has one channel
CB radio has 40 channels.
Cell phone
can communicate on 1,664 channels or more!

I have included a link to a circuit diagram.
