Question about Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera
Lawsuit?? ... lol
I had a similar experience (no fire, only a loud explosion and lot of smoke). Canon was kind enough to fix the camera for free!!
I called Canon after the incident and spoke to a representative. He said most probably they'll charge me for the repairs, since the camera has no existing warranty. I sent the camera to the repair facility anyway (Canon paid the shipping). After two days, the repair people informed me that they will perform the necessary repair works without any charge. Not sure why they did it for free. I just assumed it's part of the service recall, I had sent the camera to get the optical unit replaced three months back.
Hope this helps.

First of all, forget the lawsuit if nobody was injured. Contact the support section of the Canon website for what you should do next.
