Stihl 024AV chainsaw- no oil pumping with to bar with new pump.

I have a Stihl 024AV chainsaw with the last 5 months. It has been running perfect up until just before Chrismtas. The oil pump stopped sending oil to the guide bar the last week before Christmas. I knew something was wrong as the bar and chain together started whining out for oil. After bringing it to a dealer, he replaced the pump, saying that a few of the teeth on the pump worm wheel had been damaged. Despite the new pump, there is no oil coming out and although I have brought the saw back to my main dealer, we cannot find the problem. Can you please help me? I am a college student and I need a saw 4 days a week to work with. All help is much appreciated.

Start at the oil tank, is oil flowing fom tank to pump ?

Are the pump oil holes open ?

You can also run a little air pressure to make sure.

Let me restate what you are saying. You took it to a professional that can touch and feel the saw. He cannot repair it. You want us to magically see over the Internet what he cannot with the saw in his hands? Try a different professional or give him a little time to solve your problem. Either way without a magic wand we cannot be any help. Do you see that? It was a Stihl Dealer correct? Using certified Stihl mechanics?

Why does my stihl chain saw stall when I tilt it. Also it has a problem pushing the chain oil out to the bar

You never stated what model you're referring to. The running issue when tilted could be a fuel tank vent problem. Replace if necessary.

The oiling problem could be a number of things, check the bar groove is clean, check the oil pick up body inside the oil tank, check the oil pump/ oil worm if it has one (don't know what model yours is) check the feed line between the oil pump and where it exits to feed the bar.

Stihl chain saw 024 AV , chain does not get oil

run it with the bar off and see if it pumps oil. I have drained oil tank and cleaned with gas(no run) then replaced with lite oil , run no chain and got them going ,or then gingerly run wire into oil hole and got them going, otherwise its tear apart time. If oil does come out, then clean your bar and your cover and use bar chain oil.

I'm almost sure you have to remove the oil tank and then the oiler

No pilcoming through 009 stihl chainsaw

Check to make sure the pick up line in the tank hasn't come lose. Then check the port under the bar and cover is free and clear of debris. If that's not it you probably need a new pump.

Have a stihl MS180 and it is not pumping any oil out of the hole and slot that makes contact with the bar. How do you remove the oil pump?

To remove the oil pump you need the following:
Assembly tool 1123 890 2200 Removing oil pump Puller 1130 893 1400 Installer 1130 893 1500
I would recommend trying to clean out the oiler first.
Please comment on this and tell us what type of oil you were using. There are rumors of wrong oil clogging or wearing the oilers. Was it used motor oil? Thanks Joe

Bar not recieving oil

The problem is related to the internal oil pump. The followings are the possibilities:
  • Clogged line from the oil reservoir to the pump.
  • Clogged line between the oil pump and the chainsaw bar orifice.
  • Faulty oil pump itself (common in well used/old device).
Hope it helps.

2.0 Cubic Inch Montgomery Ward gas chain saw, 10 inch cutting bar

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 3 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH
