Question about Panasonic CT-27G11 27" TV

1 Answer

Panasonic CT-27SX12AF 27" TV The front panel controls/switches functions normally, but tv will not operate by remote (e.g. no power on/off, or channel/volume adjustments). However, if unplugged it from wall, press front panel "power button", and cool(5 mins.) Then all remote control functions would be restored for approx. 5 mins. before this problem repeats. Is it a bad I.C. ? If so, which one? Appreciate any assistance from your experts. WW.

ABRSVCS, I was surprised by your prompt reply from fixya.com. As an update, when i rotated this heavy tv around to remove rear cover. I found and removed cardboard/papers beneath it. Blocking up to 85% of the cooling vents (heat issue). Then examined underneath the IR receiver's circuit board for any cold solder joints (i.e. brittleness) and found none. Re-soldered all three IR connections for good measure. Tested the set with these fixes, but problem returned. Powered off (unplugged), placed my meter (continuity setting) leads acrossed two of the IR leads at a time and found one side with an opened reading on the forward/reverse (flip test leads) bias test. Replaced the IR receiver with a scrapped one off my junked VCR. The remote works fine !!! Now, i no longer need to manually change channels, etc. for my disabled brother if that not enough work. Thanks for your efforts anyway. WW.

This sounds more like the connections at the IR receiver being bad. This module is located near the front of the set. While this is not the area of a large amount of heat, the area does heat up a bit. It is repeated heat/cold that will cause the solder to become a little brittle. It looks like the heat generated by the set running will end up breaking the connection. This is a simple fix that requires the removal of the PC board from the set. Without prior experience working inside TVs, I would not suggest you attempt this repair. This should be a labor only repair for any TV shop and should not take long to repair.

While rare, it is possible that heat can damage the IR sensor. The most common cause is poor conenctions. I'm glad you have resolved the problem.

It appears that the image on the screen is zoomed in, but I can't figure out how to "undo" that. Thank you!

If the image on screen is zoomed both in vertical and horizontal direction, your TVs power regulator inside it is faulty. [Overvoltage]. If it is zoomed in vertical direction only, that is only the height of the picture is zoomed, you can adjust it with the remote control button directly on going through menu and get in to the function menu. Normally all TV remote has a special button marked as "Zoom" which on pressing it once the picture get zoomed, again another press the picture gets wide and again an another press picture will come to normal mode. You should select normal mode to retify the problem.

The television CT-27G5 is not recognizing the IR from the remote. I have tested the remote and it is outputing a signal. Is there a reset procedure for the television and remote to put them back in sync?

No reset for that. Most likely the remote sensor inside the tv has gone bad. It is at the front of the main PCB beside the front panel buttons. check www.encompassparts.com for availability. Thanks for using fixya.
