Question about Dishwashers

THE SOAP RARELY CLEANS COMPLETELY OUT AND SOMETIMES THE DISHES ARE LEFT DIRTY. I HAVE ELIMINATED; 1) INCOMPLETE CYCLE. AND 2) NOT USING FRESH DETERGENT. I'M THINKING THAT IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SOAP DOOR/LATCH LINKAGE. IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF THIS NEED TO TAKE THE DOOR APART. I JUST NEED TO KNOW IF I'M HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, OR IF THERE'S SOMETHING ELSE I NEED TO CONSIDER.

Hi, Just to make a suggestion before you tear into the soap dispenser, Have you tried using a liquid detergent made for dishwashers instead of the powder? If not, try this to see if this takes care of the problem. It couldn't hurt. Keep me posted.
Sincerely,

The soap sounds as though it is getting wet before its time for the latch to pop open and releasing the soap. You might try checking the seal around the dispenser to see if it fits tight. Powdered soap is very sticky when it gets wet, and will stay in the cup if it is not dry.See if the soap door fits snug. If you haven't tried the liquid soap yet, give it a try. You may already use it. If so, you may need to check the latch assembly and see if it is worn. You may have to replace it. It has to have a lot of tension on it to sling the detergent out. Keep me informed.
    Sincerely,
    Shastalaker7

There is a filter trap in all dish washers, that can get clogged and cause the problems you are having. Its usually located towards the back on the bottom inside the unit. It should remove, and be easily cleaned out.

Can I have some more information? Has this just been happening recently or has it always been this way? Do you have hard water? how about a water softener? Do you have town or well water? If well water do you have a whole house filter in place and is it clean? How is your water pressure? What model and how old is the unit?

Does not cleans dishes

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues.

Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.

To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.

For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump.

Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher.

Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

2H at the start with the cycles running into hours now

the only possible reason it to take 2 1/2 hrs for a cyc is if you selected pots/pans and sani and or heated water... possible cures for this is use only power soap also jet-dri if unsure if dispenser is working on buy to solid hanging type then turn on hot water at sink b4 you start a cyc then if you have a watersoftner do not put more than 2 tsp of soap per opening on the soap dispenser then place a clear jar with no cloudyness, do not prewash the dishes b4 washing in unit only scrape and do not select the heated wash using liquid soap is able to be broken down in cold water so if this cleans your dishes and you inspect the clear jar you placed in the unit and not cloudy... this is the way youll have to use this unit if the cloudyness is able to come off the best way is to get citric acid available at most pharmacys wear glove and wash by hand if comes out saveable if not other are destroyed then as a last remecomended use product lemme fresh for dishwasher this is not a soap but assist in keeping a sheen on you siliverware and glassed

Your soap is old. Get some fresh stuff, or use a liquid dw soap

It would help to know the manufacturer and model number.
Generally the most common problem when a dishwasher is not cleaning properly is:
1. You switched to a different/cheaper detergent. Go buy a box of Electrosol powder and see what happens after two loads of dishes.
2. If problems continue, the heating element inside the dishwasher has probably failed. Getting it replaced will almost certainly return your dishwasher to one that cleans.

Dishes not completely drying and white powder residue left.

Do you have a water softner? If so you are using to much soap in your machine. Go to wal-mart and buy a container of dishwasher clean ( it is by the rinse aids) run that through to remove any excess soap and then cut down on the amount of detergent that you are using. 1-2 tablespoons only.

I had the same issue and you will never beleive the solution.
Steps to follow:
1) run one full cycle with no dishes or soap
2) run one full cycle with a dishwasher cleaner like Jetdry
3) run one full cycle with a gallon of white vinager
4) never put soap in the extra in and only fill the main soap bin half way.

should work fine from here on out, but never fill main bin more then half way when you do dishes. also run the hot water in the sink until the water is very hot before starting the dish washer.

White Residue

most likely it is your detergent. palmolive eco is notorious for leaving a white chalky residue on dishes. try this out before calling a service tech: put unclean glasses in the dishwasher and in your soap dish and rinse cycle cup put 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar. if it cleans (or improves) your dishes, then your detergent is the culprit.

Soap film on dishes

Rodney B if you are sure that the white film is detergent and not hard water deposits, then look at how you are using the detergent. When you watch the TV ads for dw detergents, they are showing baked on/extemely dirty dishes being put in the dishwasher and coming out clean. Well they do this as the dw detergent is designed to break down protein based food products. Fats, oils, and such. If you are prewashing your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, then there is nothing for the detergent to attack and attach to, so it ends up staying in the dishwasher. If you are going to rinse your dishes, then you need only 1 tablespoon of detergent. Dishwashers are designed to clean using 4 parameters, hot water of 130 degrees, water, detergent,& pressure of the water jets. That is how they clean dishes. Now if this is hard water deposits, switching to an enviromently friendly detergent which is high is Citric Acid (What gives Tang drink its tartness) this will reduce this issue. Hope this helps
