Bottom freezer I have a new GE refrigerator model GDL22KCWSS. The ice maker fills up the bin too much. Some ice cubes fall out to the botton of the freezer when the bin door is opened.

Hi have nice day.
The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable.
I would suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

Many of today's icemakers never shut off. They do this to match the increasing amount of water being consumed. Some icemakers may produce ice faster than you can consume it. Eventually causing the bucket to overflow. The ice maker may have to be turned off once the ice bucket is full. This is usually done via a switch or metal arm on the body of the ice maker. On those with a metal arm up position is 'off', and down position is 'on'. Alternative method is to remove ice bucket and dispose of unwanted ice before it reaches top of bucket. Use caution with this method as some buckets are difficult to reinstall. It may be easier to simply dispense excess ice into a bowl, which is then dumped into the sink. Excess ice can be used to water household plants.

Hi Chavel,

Did the ref. in the proper level? An icemaker that is out of level will spill water into the ice bin or into the freezer

It is important for the refrigerator to be level. If it is not level, doors may not open or close properly and may not seal tightly. Also, drainage from the defrost cycle might be impaired as might the ice making cycle. The appliance was engineered based on it being installed in a level position. While there may be some tolerance for out-of-level installation, the appliance will operate at its best when properly leveled.

It can be repositioned by loosening the mounting screws, adjusting it for level and then retightening the screws.

Regards,
-micro

There is an small bar or arm that hangs down into the hopper where the ice collects. Sometimes the manufacturer will tape this bar down and it is not free to move. Or see if the arm is bent. Also I had a new side by side last year, did the same thing. They sent some kid out and he told me it is a design flaw. Did not have a clue. I called GE and they sent out a repair man who knew what the problem was. It was a new bailing arm that had to be installed in place of the old one. If the arm is swinging freely, call the warranty company. Maybe yours needs to be modified as well? Good Luck

People people, have you read the persons complaint? Never was water leaking out or a problem with the water ever mentioned. Boy what a bunch of quacks?! I see how you all are just to try and get over on another tech. And, And to ginko, what do you think an automatic ICE MAKER does. You do not ever need to shut it off man. That's a crock what your telling the person. I have never ever heard where you have to turn off a new ice maker because it overfills unless there is a problem with the automatic ice detection arm is bent, installed wrong or a bad micro switch.

NEED PROCEDURE FOR REMOVING THE ICE MAKER FOR INSPECTION AND TROUBLESHOOTING. FRIG IS NEW...ICE MAKER NOT MAKING ICE !!!!!

Are you sure you have the ice bin properly in place?

Ice bin must be locked in place for proper ice dispensing. If necessary, turn auger driver behind ice bin counterclockwise to properly align ice bin with auger driver.

• Press the switch ON to activate ice maker. Slide bin into guide rails located on either side of the enclosure. Push the ice bin in until resistance is felt. Raise the front slightly and push the ice bin completely in. An audible "click" is heard when the ice bin is located correctly.

• After freezer section reaches between 0° to 2° F (-18° to -17° C), ice maker fills with water and begins operating. You will have a complete harvest of ice

approximately every hour.

• Allow approximately 3 to 6 hours after installation to receive first harvest of ice.

• Discard ice created within the first 12 hours of operation to verify system is flushed of impurities.

• Stop ice production by pressing the ON/OFF switch located on the front of the ice maker.

• The first one or two batches will probably contain undersized and irregular cubes because of air in the supply line.

• When the ice cubes are ejected it is normal for several cubes to be joined together at the ends. They can easily be broken apart. The ice maker will

continue to make ice until the supply of ice cubes raises the ice maker arm, shutting the ice maker off.

• Certain sounds may accompany the various cycles of the ice maker. The motor may have a slight hum, the cubes will rattle as they fall into an empty storage bin and the water valve may click or "buzz" occasionally.

Ice falls to bottom of frig when drawer is opened

If when your ice bin is pulled out it drags ice cubes from top of bin as I understand I would think that the sensor that tells the ice maker is not responding correctly. As I remember your model a PSS26MSRSS Profile/Artica has electronic Ice Makers that I hate and I think most people will agree that anything on a refrigerator electronic is a big mistake. All refrigerators have their problems but the electronic controlled models have so many complaints! Now I also noticed you did not confirm your model number so I need to ask is your model the PSS26MSRSS Profile? This is a lot of writing if I happen to be quoting a different model than yours, Thanks Sea Breeze

Our GE Adora Refrigerator's ice maker isn't working properly

Perhaps your freezer isn't set cold enough - or your freezer door seal is not sealing correctly and the ice cubes are melting in the bin and sticking to one another and the spiral screw that delivers the ice.

Ice cubes made by ice maker become large fused chunks over time.

Ice cubes will deteriorate over time if not used. They shrink due to defrosting of the freezer and will become stale.
Once the ice bin is full, turn the ice maker off until you use the cubes and or dump the cubes every 3 or 4 days and start over.

Ice maker sprays water into the ice storage bin

you need to remove the i/m from the freezer and make sure the "fill cup" doesnt have an ice blockage. thats where the water has to funnel into the mold. it can get a drip into the cup and then freeze in the cup. clear it out once and try it again, but if it happens once or twice again , then you might have to replace the water inlet valve.
