Question about Hannspree XM-S Boston Monitor

Open Question

I have been using this Hannspree Xm-S monitor via the DVI port rather than the SVGA on my docking station, but coming back to it after having not used it since before Christmas, I only seem able to use it with SVGA. Is there a setting which is preventing this from detecting the DVI connection?

SOURCE: Hannspree 19" HF199H LCD - Display is LARGE on monitor!

Try Control Panel - Appearance or Display- You can change how your 2nd display looks there.. Sounds like you have it set in Clone mode...(both displays show the same things)...See if you can reset the 2nd display resolution while keeping the laptop in its normal resolution. Not all machines can do this...but most recent ones should be able to.

SOURCE: Hannspree will not supply XP drivers

In some systems the EDID/DDC information are not recognized because of a VGA cable. I have uploaded an XP driver for HF229H to here: http://rapidshare.com/files/401122732/HF229H.inf

SOURCE: I have a hannspree XM-s monitor and a black semi

Usually flat screen monitors seldom get issues with display. But when they get issues such as these they are caused by either a lot of pressure or being manhandled. If the black oval shape has nothing to do with the system which sends the display to the unit and happens not to be something which has fallen in between the inner screen and the outer glass then the screen is spoilt and has to be replaced. The screen can be replaced by an expert but usually flat panel monitors after being opened tend to become troublesome and epileptic.
Best would be if the monitor cannot be managed with the black oval shape then it is best to just scrap it and get a replacement.
Hope this solution is helpful?

I have CMV 946D Monitor and i am trying to connect it to my laptop via DVI cable and it doesn't work. my laptop is already connect to another monitor using VGA cable. do i need any driver or does DVI...

Sorry, but you can use only one port at a time, not both, It is either DVI or VGA. If you want to drive two monitors, you need to lok for docking station with dual video card.

Running two external monitors

Okay. Thanks for the info too...

I looked at the user's guide for this laptop and see exactly what you're saying.
I found it here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook_Pro_Users_Guide.pdf

So, the laptop comes with a DVI to VGA adapter because the only port on this system that will allow you to connect an external display is one that connects to a DVI port (in short, you don't have a VGA port).

moz-screenshot-3.jpgmoz-screenshot-4.jpgOkay, you have a couple of options here:

  1. You can purchase a docking station which, depending on where you buy it from, will be more expensive than the other options. If you decide to purchase one, first make sure that it will provide the ports that you need. For example, my docking station has one DVI port and one VGA port. If and when I connect a second monitor, I will connect it to the DVI port using a single DVI to VGA adapter (as I don't have any flat panels that connect directly to a DVI port). 63efdf2.jpg If you purchase the docking station, make sure it has both the DVI and VGA or you're stilling floating up the same creek without a paddle.
2. You can't use the cable that came with the laptop because it only connects to the DVI port
of your laptop with one VGA connector on the other end, therefore, supporting only one
external monitor. You need either a DVI to DVI and VGA adapter or a DVI to VGA and VGA
adapter

Okay, now that we covered that information, let's get down to business...
Since you already have your monitors and probably don't want to spend $200-300 on a docking station, this is the best and quickest solution:

You have two monitors both with VGA connectors. Your laptop has 1 DVI port on its side (correct?).
Look at the image of the DVI to VGA and VGA adapter. You need to purchase one of these. It will allow you to connect one end to the DVI port on the laptop and connect your monitors to the two VGA ports on the other end...viola!!

You can use the DVI to VGA and DVI adapter but it would complicate your situation unless you were trying to connect a VGA and DVI monitor so we can eliminate that option unless you are desparate and that's the only adapter you find to purchase.

These adapters are very inexpensive (probably anywhere from $9 to $19. You should be able to purchase them at a store that sells computers, hardware, software, etc. You may even find them at Wal-Mart or RadioShack. If need be, you can purchase one online. However, if you go out and search a couple of stores or computer places, you should find one and be able to connect your monitors when you get home.

Feel free to leave any comments if you need further information.

Thanks for using Fixya and don't forget to rate this solution.

Dvi port doesn't work with 23'' samsung monitor

yeah, you can set the display setting as extension display your DVI

Intel, ATI,Nvidia have tools also to set up,

i have ATI and use the ATI Catalyst tools and autodetect the monitors that i connected to my docking station, intel and nvidia also have this utility.

it depends on setting if u wanted the external monitor as CLONE monitor of your laptop or extension Monitor...

or they might have problem on DVI port of your docking station.

download and install the video utility ( must have .net installed before you install the utility)

the utility will detect your video ports (VGA,DVI,S-video)

let me know the update ..

My Dell D610 laptop monitor has went completely white.

I don't have a Dell D610 with me, there should be a VGA/SVGA port on the back. If not, there's a DVI port.

If the video has not gone bad, you should be able to. Connect the monitor to the back vga/svga port or DVI port.

The are several controls to activate the monitor for Dell computers.

CTRL ALT <
CTRL ALT F10
FN F8 (CRT/LCD)
FN D
FN F12

Good Luck.

Can a macbook pro work with a hannspree 28" LCD monitor?

I cant see why not, On you TV you have incomming port called HDMI, on your mac you have an outgoing port called MiniDislay for DVI.
You can use that port whit an adapter to make it to a real DVI, the you need another adapter to reform the DVI to HDMI. It can be done, its a little bit tricky, but it can be done.

here is the spec on your mac
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html

And here are the spec for yor tv

Unable to have 1280x768 full screen with DVI cable

Use the menu button on the monitor itself to adjust for the screen size in DVI mode.

On your SVGA adapter, go to your display properties (right click on desktop) click ADVANCED and change the refresh rate to fix the first problem mentioned.
