Question about Air Tools & Compressors

Electrict compressor will not pump more than 20 pounds. It is not leaking when turned off. I have tightened all connections, drained all water from tank. changed oil, took head off cleaned and replaced it. Air seems to be coming out through the intake. Sounds like it is running normal. what is wrong!!??

From what you have told me it sounds like that when you put the head on you have the head reversed.the intake valves are where the exhaust valves are. or you have a tear in your gasket

Why wont my steelcraft 13 gallon 5hp model ta25 build up no more then 20 pound of pressure and all i did was change the oil?


Check all connections for air leak including the water drain valve with soapy water. If no air leaking from connections, spray soapy water on head area where head attaches to the cylinder checking for gasket leaks. If no leaks are found, most likely problem is in the head /valves /internal gasket leak. If head gasket or valves are leaking, you will notice that air seems to blow out of the intake filter (normally there is good suction at the intake). Good luck

Instructions
  1. 4.0L Explorer Engines
    • 1Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
    • 2Remove the fan shroud, the cooling fan, the accessory drive belt and the water pump pulley with the bolts.
    • 3Disconnect the coolant bypass hose and the lower radiator hose.
    • 4Loosen and remove the bolts attaching the water pump and remove the pump from the engine.
    • 5Clean all the mounting surfaces to the water pump.
    • 6Install the new pump, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (20 to 28 Nm).
    • 7Reattach and install all components in reverse order from removal. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 18 foot pounds (25 Nm).
    • 8Refill the cooling system. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
    5.0L Explorer Engines
    • 9Disconnect the negative battery cable and place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
    • 10Remove the fan shroud, the cooling fan, the accessory drive belt and the water pump pulley with the bolts.
    • 11Take out the accessory drive belt. Disconnect and remove the heater hose and the bypass hose from the pump.
    • 12Remove the brackets to the engine control sensor wiring. Move the harness out of the way.
    • 13Loosen and remove the bolts to the water pump pulley and the water pump and remove the pulley.
    • 14Pull the water pump out and away from the front cover. Once the water pump is out of the way, disconnect the lower radiator hose. Then, take the water pump out of the engine.
    • 15Clean the front cover to the water pump and all the mounting surfaces. Put some adhesive gasket sealer on both sides of a brand new gasket and put it on the pump.
    • 16Reattach the lower radiator hose to the pump and reattach the pump, tightening the bolts to 15 to 21 foot pounds (20 to 28 Nm).
    • 17Reattach and reinstall all components in reverse order to their removal.
      Reattach the negative battery cable and refill the cooling system. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

Replace water pump 95 Nissan maxima


Remove the Old Water Pump
  • 1

    Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.

    Place a car jack underneath the oil pain to support it. Also, to protect the engine parts, put a block of wood onto the jack.

  • 3

    Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the engine mount and bracket on the right side.

  • 4

    Take out the drive belts as well as the idler pulley bracket, the chain tensioner cover and the water pump cover.

  • 5

    Push the timing chain tensioner sleeve up and put a stopper pin in it to keep it from slipping. Take out the chain tensioner assembly.

  • 6

    Turn the crankshaft pulley in a backward motion until it rotates 20 degrees.

  • 7

    Place 2 MB bolts into the threaded holes of the pump and tighten them by hand, alternating turning a half turn each at a time unit they reach the timing chain rear case. Doing it this way will prevent damage to the timing chain rear case.

  • 8

    Remove the water pump, throwing away the old o-rings. Make sure not to let the water pump hit the timing chair.

Install the New Water Pump
  • 1

    Clean all the mounting surfaces on the water pump and covers.

  • 2

    Install the new water pump with the new o-rings, tightening the bolts to 75 to 95 inch pounds (8.5 to 10.7 Nm).

  • 3

    Turn the crankshaft pulley back to its starting position (20 degrees forward).

  • 4

    Install the chain tensioner and water pump covers, tightening to .092 to 130 inch pounds (2.3 to 3.3 mm).

  • 5

    Take out the stopper pin from the timing chain tensioner.

  • 6

    Put a bead of liquid sealant onto the mating surfaces of the water pump and timing chain tensioner.

  • 7

    Install the timing chain tensioner with the water pump to the engine block, tightening the bolts to 87 to 113 inch pounds.

  • 8

    Add the drive belts, the idler pulley bracket and the engine mounting bracket with the engine mount.

  • 9

    Reinstall the negative battery cable and remove the jack from under the engine. Install drain plugs to the cylinder block.

  • 10

    Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

Continue to monitor for the next few days for air bubbles in the system causing the fluid level to go down. NEVER TOUCH A HOT ENGINE, CHECK WHEN ENGINE IS COOL.

REPLACE WATER PUMP


3.0L OHV Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Allow the engine to cool.
  2. Remove the radiator cap and drain the cooling system.
  3. Loosen four retaining bolts securing the water pump pulley to the water pump hub.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  5. Remove the automatic belt tensioner.
  6. Disconnect and remove the heater hose from the water pump.
  7. Remove the engine control sensor wiring from the locating stud bolt, if equipped.
  8. Remove the water pump-to-engine retaining bolts and lift the water pump and pulley up and out of the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces on the water pump and engine front cover. Install a new gasket on the water pump using gasket adhesive.
  2. Place the water pump in position on the engine with the pulley and four retaining bolts loosely installed on the hub.
  3. Apply pipe sealant to bolt No. 3. Refer to the accompanying illustration for bolt location.
  4. Install the bolts in the water pump housing.
  5. Tighten bolts Nos. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm). Tighten bolts Nos. 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
The bolts are of different lengths and must be installed in the correct locations.
  1. If equipped, attach the engine control sensor wiring to the locating stud bolt.
  2. Hand-tighten the water pump pulley retaining bolts.
  3. Install the accessory drive belts.
  4. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  5. Connect the heater hose to the water pump.
  6. Fill the cooling system. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Check for leaks and proper operation.

3.0L DOHC Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Remove the water pump drive belt.
  3. Disconnect the radiator and heater hoses from the water pump.
  4. If equipped, remove the A/C compressor-to-water pump brace.
  5. Unfasten the four nuts securing the water pump to the engine and remove the water pump.

To install:

  2. Install the water pump using a new gasket and install the four retaining nuts. Tighten the retaining nuts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).

  4. If equipped, install the A/C compressor-to-water pump brace. Tighten the brace bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  5. Remove the water pump drive belt.
  6. Fill the engine cooling system, then connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then check for coolant leaks and proper engine operation.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the car and support it with safety stands.
CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
  1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the timing belt.
  3. Unfasten the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.
  4. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
  5. Lower the car and disconnect the heater hose from the water pump.
  6. Unfasten the three bolts and one stud from the water pump.
  7. Remove the water pump.

To install:

WARNING Do not use any abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material. Use a plastic manual gasket scraper to remove the gasket residue. Be careful not to scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces when cleaning them.
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces thoroughly until all traces of the old gasket residue are removed. Inspect the gasket mating surfaces, both must be clean and flat.
  2. Install a new gasket and the water pump.
  3. Install the water pump bolts and stud to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  4. Connect the heater hose to the pump.
  5. Raise the car and support it with safety stands.
  6. Connect the lower radiator hose to the pump.
  7. Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  8. Install the timing belt and lower the car.
  9. Fill the cooling system with the proper amount and mixture of coolant.
  10. Start the engine and check for leaks.

DOHC ENGINE
See Figure 9
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant.   1. Install the water pump and tighten the retainers to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  2. Place the A/C compressor in position and tighten the mounting bolts.

  4. Install the splash shield and tighten the bolts.
  5. Fill the cooling system with the proper amount and mixture of coolant.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

How to Replace the Water Pump in a Pontiac Grand Am The water pump is the heart of the Pontiac grand am's cooling system, circulating the coolant. A faulty water pump can cause some serious damage to the engine of your Pontiac Grand Am. To prolong the life of your vehicle's engine, make sure to change out a bad water pump.
2.2L Grand Am Engine Disconnect the negative battery cables before you begin.Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.Elevate the vehicle and remove the right front wheel, the splash shield, the water pump sprocket access plate and remove the exhaust manifold if your vehicle has an n automatic trans-axle.Use the water pump sprocket holding tool (Tool Part Number J 43651) and attach it to the sprocket with access plate bolts, securing the tool to the front cover of the engine.Remove the following bolts to remove the water pump: the three bolts attaching the pump to the engine block, the bolt to the engine front cover, the bolts to the sprocket and the bolt attaching the thermostat housing to the pump.Remove the old pump and install the new one, aligning the water pump sprocket to the hub with a threaded stud.Reinsert the engine cover bolt to the block to the pump, tightening the bolt to 15 foot pounds (20 Nm). Tighten two of the water pump sprocket bolts to the water pump by hand.Take out the threaded stud that was used to align the water pump sprocket to the hub and attach the last bolt to the sprocket to the pump, tightening all three to 89 foot pounds (10 Nm).Remove the water pump sprocket holding tool and attach the timing cover to the water pump sprocket access plate, tightening the bolts to 89 foot pounds (10 Nm).Reattach the splash shield, the right front wheel and the exhaust manifold if applicable.Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant and reconnect the negative battery cable. 2.4L Grand Am Engine Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain out the coolant from the cooling system when the engine is cool.Disconnect the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor and remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.Remove the following bolts and studs: the coolant inlet housing bolt connecting the exhaust manifold, the bolt to the exhaust manifold to the brace, the studs to the manifold to exhaust pipe and the bolt to the coolant inlet housing to water pump.Disconnect the following parts from each other: the exhaust manifold from the exhaust pipe by pulling the pipe downward, the oil pan from the coolant inlet pipe, the camshaft housing from the brake vacuum pipe, the cylinder head from the exhaust manifold, the heater outlet pipe from the heater hose and the timing chain cover from the tensioner.Loosen and remove the water pump bolts to the engine and the bolts from the pump to the timing chain. Remove the water pump with the cover assembly and remove the cover from the pump.Install the new pump with new gaskets. Replace the cover and tighten the bolts by hand. Attach the pump to the engine and tighten these bolts by hand.Attach the pump to the timing chain housing nuts and the coolant inlet pipe to the cover. 5.3L Grand Prix Engine
  1. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
  2. Remove the battery from the engine along with its tray.
  3. Take the drive belt out of the engine.
  4. Loosen and remove the three bolts to the water pump and remove the pump, throwing away the gasket.
  5. Clean the gasket mating surfaces and install the new water pump with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (10 Nm).
  6. Reinstall the drive belt and the battery with the battery tray.
  7. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
3.5L Grand Prix Engine
  1. Partially drain the coolant from the cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose and remove the drive belt.
  3. Remove the idler pulley and the water pump pulley, making sure to note the locations of the bolts as you remove them as they are various lengths.
  4. Loosen and remove the bolts to the water pump, also taking note at their locations, and remove the pump.
  5. Install the new water pump with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 124 inch pounds (14 Nm).
  6. Reattach the water pump pulley, tightening the bolts to 106 inch pounds (12 Nm).
  7. Reinstall the idler pulley, tightening the bolts to 37 foot pounds (50 Nm) and install the surge tank hose and drive belt.
  8. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant.
  9. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
3.4L and 3.1L Grand Prix Engines

  1. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt guard and the accessory drive belt.
  4. Loosen and remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the water pump pulley.
  5. Remove the water pump bolts and remove the water pump.
  6. Install the new water pump along with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (10 Nm).
  7. Reinstall the water pump pulley and tighten the bolts to 18 foot pounds (25 Nm).
  8. Reattach the accessory drive belt with the drive belt guard.
  9. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant.
  10. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

How to replace water pump


1. Drain coolant from engine.
2. Remove water pump drain plug. It is located on the front of the block just above the A/C compressor and about 2 o'clock of the crankshaft pulley.
3. Place a floor jack under engine (be sure to use a piece of wood in between jack and oil pan). Remove the right side engine mounting, mounting bracket and nuts.
4. Remove the drive belts and idler pulley bracket.
5. Remove the two black covers on the front of the engine. The one towards the radiator will have the water pump behind it and the one towards the thermo barrier will have the timing chain tenioner behind it.
6. Push in the tensioner sleeve, apply a stopper pin so it does not return ( a paper clip will work ).
7. Remove the tensioner (2 - 10mm bolts )
8. Remove the 3 water pump bolts.
9. Turn the crankshaft pulley approximately 20 degrees backwards to put slack in the chain to give clearance for the water pump.
10. Install the two M8 bolts into the threaded holes in the water pump (the upper hole and the lower hole)
11. Tighten the M8 bolts by turning half turn alternately until the water pump becomes loose. Lift up water pump and remove it. Make sure you move the timing chain away from the pump to remove it. Do not worry about engine timing. It will not effect it at all. The water pump is not part of timing the engine, nor will the chain losse contact with the crankshaft gear.
12. Make sure to use two new "O" rings on the water pump.
13. Install water pump and tighten bolts (63.4 - 85.1 inch pounds)
14. Return the crankshaft pulley to its original position by turning it 20 degrees forward.
15. Install timing chain tensioner, then remove the stopper pin ( paper clip)
16. Place sealer on the black covers and reinstall.
17. Reinstall engine mounting.
18. Reinstall drive belts.
19. Fill with new coolant.
20. Start engine and check for leaks. (Engine will be noise at first until the tensioner fills with engine oil. This is normal.)
