mostly something stuck in impact printhead carriage
Carriage out-of-step error. There is no carriage detector output even when the carriage is instructed to move.
1. Check the carriage assembly for paper jams.
2. Check the rotary encoder on the carriage motor gear used to detect carriage position. 3. Check the carriage motor. If the motor is shorted, replace it along with the main board. 4. Try installing a new main circuit board unit to see if the printer is repaired. If the printer works now, refer to the section "Test Points on the Main Circuit Board Unit" to analyze the area where the failure occurred.

Carriage jam error

A paper jam

If you've had a paper jam, normally after you clear it, a small amount of paper sometimes gets left behind and gets shunted onto the sidewall of the printer by the carriage, which stops the carriage reaching its full travel and throwing up an error, rendering the printer unable to print or carry out any other function. Simply remove the paper and switch printer off and on and it will reset.
If you have an error of any other kind, many remedies and fixes for these can be found on my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk/frame/pages/epson.htm

Carriage Jam problem. Have gone through complete troubleshooting routine, but the message just won't go away. Says ""Carriage Jam". No debris to left or right of carriage. In fact, the jam was in the paper...

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.
