Amana args7650 had a dangerous failure. It started to beep, and smoke came from above the LED-pusbutton control panel. The oven door locked as if it was self-cleaning. Tried to "cancel" but the heat kept going up, and the oven could not be turned off. It showed f5, an error code for a controller problem (no kidding) before the LED panel went black. Eventually, the smoke from the control panel turned to small flames before I killed power at the circuit breaker (the plug was behind the slide-in stove and the stove was too hot to move). Shortly afterward, the gas valve closed and the stove shut off. However, it left me with a locked oven door. I tried restoring power, but it immediately started smoking again. I suspect a short in the control unit.

Any idea how I can open the oven door? I can probably replace the control unit myself if I can figure out how to get behind the panel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Manual

When the range top burners and the oven are both not lighting, I recommend you check if the manual shut-off valve to the range has been turned off. With most of my gas ranges, you have to remove the drawer to reach the shut-off valve. (so If you have propane, make sure that your tank isn't low.

Make sure that your home is well ventilated; open the windows and check the range in a while. I live in an area where we had to add a whole house ventilator. We had days where the house would seem stuffy and none of the burners would light. (Appliances with pilot lights went out.) This was due to excess carbon dioxide shifting from nearby coal and natural gas deposits.

It is possible for the igniters to fail if there is power to the range, but usually not the oven, the broiler and all of the top burners at once. You can test the top burners carefully with a long handled butane lighter or a long match. Turn on the hood fan and set a burner to the Lite position. Carefully, light the lighter near the burner or bring the lit match to the burner. If the gas is flowing properly and there is sufficient oxygen, it should light. Then remove the lighter or match and put it out. Then adjust the burner temperature.
The manual for the ARGS7650SS is available from Amana. The direct link is here: http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/31810401.PDF . Many newer Amana product manuals are available here: http://shop.amana.com/product_literature/search.jsp .

I hope this helps.

(note: you should also make sure that the regulator cap is correctly set for your type of gas (LP or NG). The gas flow rates are different enough to make the regulator fail. Most ranges are shipped for with the cap set for NG. Turn off the gas and unplug the electrical cord before working on the regulator cap. The burner orifices need to be changed as well as some other adjustments to convert from NG to LP. See pages 9-11 of the manual for details.)

The Oven and Range are working; however I have a F5 code on the display. Can you tell me what this means?

The F5 code means that the range door isn't latching properly (for some Whirlpool ranges). Check the latch when the oven is cool. If it is loose, tighten the screws that hold the latch. Try opening and closing the door to see if the latch is clicking shut properly. Then unplug the range for 30 seconds to a minute to reset the unit. If the error clears, you're done.

If the error persists, clean the latch area. With the oven not in use, rub the latch area with a cloth that you dunked in hot water and wrung out the excess water. Then dry with a paper towel.

If cleaning doesn't help, the latch probably needs to be replaced.

I hope this helps. Please give me the model number of your range for additional ideas. Whirlpool has the user's manuals for most of their appliances at their site. See http://www.whirlpool.com/custserv/index.jsp and the Manuals and Literature search box.

Amana, ACS3350, gas slid - in range, the oven will not turn

I just had the same problem. I had it repaired and it was the oven ignitor. Labor and Parts $185. I now have an additional problem and I have to call the repair person back. The oven starts up and preheats to temp I set of 350 degrees. Then after awhile it will shut off and after another few minutes the clock will come back on and blink. I will repress oven bake and it will go for a short time and then shut off. I don't know what the problem is yet. I am totaly dis gusted with this stove. The stove is only 8 years old!
