Question about Seagate (ST3120026A-RK) 120 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Thanks for the "comeback" buddy. I have tried quite a few things, such as swapping the drive for Primary to Secondary (I have an OS on another drive, and therefore I don't have to use the bad drive as a boot disk), and Master to Slave. If I do a c/o and before boot up via my ASUS screen, the drive is seen. (its a Segate 7200.7 120G PATA drive). If I do a c/o w/ Windows XP Manager and look at the device XP sees it and says its OK! But if I look for it in Windows Explorer, I can't see it. BTW when I boot up w/ it it says that a file is corrupted or missing RootSystem32hal.dll. I did notice that when its running as slave, the whole system (w/ my OS running on my B/U drive) is running VERY slowly. If I disconnect the Segate and reboot it is like a new computer, ie fast. My theory is that it's pulling a lot of juice from the PS and slowing down the processors. That's why when I take it out of the congfig, it runs faster. Any credence to that theory? Regardless, all I want to do is get it up once and **** all my non-apps off it and then chuck it. Life is to short to try and fix a problem like that. Besides drives a too inexpensive now and I have too many laying around... Thanks Again Frank

Well Frank I'll try my best , first off XP doesn't like dual OS installed in a comp running 2 OS , an internal slave is a storage HDD having an OS installed on that HDD will cause conflicts to the C; drive the drive that is running through the windows registry if the slave drive use to run through the OS registry then it remembers that it wasn't static and the image that was placed on it by the OS , in short try making sure its set to slave turn on the computer , if you are having problems turning on windows since the slave is corrupt try putting it in a drive enclosure and turn it on after the computer has booted all the way then turn on the external to retrieve your data , the whole problem started when you booted up you computer with 2 HDD running an OS

Problem is with either corrupt cmos, bad battery, bad hard drive, corrupted OS.

Pick one. See if it works with adapter. Perform diagnostics on hard drive with another working computer. Do all to localize issue and then deal with it.

if you want to connect two hard drive together then remove the jumper of the primary hard drive and don't touch the setting of the secondary drive then start the system.always make primary drive which have the os.

Acer T180 SATA controller/bios stopped recognizing my 250GB Hard Disk. Not able to load any OS on new Hard Drives.Bios recognize the IDE DVD/RW drive.

If it just happened without any changes then it's probably a failure of the controller. You should probably check the bios just to make sure it's turned on. Also make sure there aren't any cabling problems. Your motherboard may have two controllers, a primary and secondary. Try swapping to the other cable. It's also a good excuse to get a new motherboard and cpu. The prices are really low lately.

Cloned hard drive "C" (WD 40GB) to A Deskstar 8oGB using external enclosure. When I remove the old drive and install new drive and boot up I get Msg drive 0 not found retry or enter setup. If I enter setup...

there are few thing you ahve to keep in mind

there are two type of hard disk
1. IDE

As per your hdd capacity it should of IDE type.

Now there are two IDE slots on motherboard. One is Primary and other is Secondary

You can fix two hdd with one IDE Slot that mean you can fix up upto faour IDE hdd at a time

Now again there are Primary master and Primary Slave

Secondary Master and Secondary Slave

Now You have to examine what was the location of previous hdd
1 Primary Master
2 Primary Slave
3 Secondary Master
4 Secondary Slave.

Now you have to make a HDD master or Slave.

just in between data cable connector and power cable connector there is a jumper. that specify the master or slave. do reply me if it works well thanks

Computer won't run windows and come up with a trap-handler error

on the IDE Port, set the jumpers to the hard drives/cdrom on CS(Cable Select) this lets the BIOS and the ribbon cable decide which is primary (Master) and which is secondary (Slave) on that IDE cable. if they were configured wrong you would get an error.

If the IDE channel is no good, try switching the primary and secondary IDE ribbon cables.

Motherboard fails to see Hard Drive...please help

Sounds like you lost an ide channel, swap the ide cables around, primary to secondary and secondary to primary. and see if it recognizes the hard drives and not the cdrom.

I lost an IDE channel and had to install a sata hard drive or run the hard drive and cdrom on the same ribbon. If you run HD and CDROM on same ribbon set both to CS (cable select)
