Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Volume control issues

I have set up 2 tower speakers using 25 ft. runs of 16 ga. wire. The volume is jumping up and down. The set-up worked fine with shorter runs of 12 ga. wire.
Did I just buy cheap wire, or is there something else that I am doing wrong?

MMmmm, I'm doubting this has anything to do with wire. Can you test that theory by wiring one speaker with each type / length of wire and getting the same reslults?

Define the speakers and the amp for us.

Trying to set up Bose 901 series VI to a Nakamichi AV 500 also what gauge speaker wire from amp to speakers

Plain old 18ga lamp cord is fine unless the run is long (over 50', say). Then use 16 ga. Be sure to observe correct phase. Speaker wire is color coded, lamp cord has a ridge on one side. Be sure to always connect the same color or ridge to the same connection (ex: red on amp to copper color wire to red or + on speaker). Do not use "speaker wire" that is smaller than 18go (higher number = smaller).

I have a very deep yard. Approx. 150 feet from my nearest power outlet. Can I use your weed trimmer products? What is the recommended wire gage of the power cord I should use.

A 16 Ga extension cord will run 10 amps up to oo feet. Electric weed wackers run between 2 and 4 amps, so you should be fine with a 16 Ga cord.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer

Denon dra 397 shuts done if I turn on both zone a & b. Have a 100 watt volume control on each pair of speakers. Works fine with only zone a or zone b on, but not both.

Let's understand this - you have an external volume control wired in series with each front speaker set?

Can you elaborate on their electrical characteristics?

Volume won't stay set

There have been many new things that have been introduced when Google bought Youtube, and I believe that one of them is that it resets the computers speaker volume all they way up, the best I can currently suggest is that you leave the computer volume up and turn the physical speaker volume down, and it should be fine.

Hope this has helped,

two 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 4 ohms.
if series 16 ohms.a high resistance will just produce less power.
too low a number can activate the speaker protect,or blow the amp.
radio shack sell wall mounted speaker controls, but 5 watt max.
the best thing is to run 2 amplifiers.one for in ,2 for out
speaker a and b on the amp parallel the speakers.
if you run 2 sets of 4ohm speakers,the amplifier load will be 2 ohms,and overheat the amp.4 8 ohm speakers,gives a 4 ohm load

Need longer ribbon speaker wire for Acoustimass 16

I have the same question. I just called Bose at 1-877-210-3782 (prompt 6) and they have two solutions:

1. 20 foot Input extension - $25
2. Input adaptor - $12 (you can run your own speaker cable to the input adaptor)

Reciever turns off

Powering off usually points to issues with speaker setup. You should read pages 42 and 96 of the 606 manual.

Page 42 covers impedence settings. Check your impedence settings for your speakers. The 606 handles speakers from 4 to 16 ohms. There are two impedence settings on the 606 - 4 ohms and 6 ohms. Set to 4 ohms if your speakers are 4 ohms or more but less than 6 ohms. Set to 6 ohms if your speakers sit between 6 and 16 ohms. Incorrect settings can result in the 606 going into power protection after prolonged use or at higher volume.

Page 96 covers testing for unexpected power protection. You should switch off your AV at source and leave for an hour. Disconnect all cables to speakers and other peripherals (TV, DVD et al). After an hour turn on AV and turn volume to MAX, If the AV remains on, turn down volume to min, switch off AV and reconnect all devices. Make sure the speaker cables are properly connected and that no bare wiring is exposed.

Once you have done this switch on the AV and turn to volume to MAX. If the AV stays on then problem solved. If the AV switches off then you should contact your supplier.

Turning volume up on my Denon AVR-485 AMP causes it to turn off

Speaker Impedance:
When speaker systems A and B are used separately, speakers with an impedance of 6 to 16 ohms can be connected for use as front speakers
Be careful when using two pairs of front speakers (A + B) at the same time if their impedance is less than 12 ohms.
The protector circuit may be activated of the set is played for long periods of time at high volumes with an impedance lower than specified are connected.
