Good day,
On GE products it's referred to as a rattle down. It is internal to the compressor, and short of a new one, little can be done.
They will many times run a long time before failing, even years.
The only thing you can do, is make sure the condenser coils are clean. Vacuuming doesn't always work. You need to unplug the machine, remove the back cover, and blow the coils out from back to front, and then front to back.
Ugly and dirty, but should be done. A good shop vac with a push/pull feature and crevice tool works great, if you don't have a compressed air tank.
Second, make sure the cooling fan by the compressor is running properly, and lastly Make sure you reinstall the back cover completely. IT IS A VITAL PART OF THE MACHINE.

Thank you for using FixYa

The compressor motor on our GE Profile side by side has been making a loud banging sound when it shuts off. Now, it doesn't shut off at all. I notice some ice formed in the back of the freezer.

two seperate issues, the springs within the compressor housing that support the piston have broken, can only be resolved by replacing regards to the ice build up,you have a defrost problem.defrost issues can usually be resolved for about 120-160.00 through a qualified servicer

Thumping sound when the water turns on or off? during a normal cold cycle, we especially hear it during the spin cycle. It's not the spinning action it's the water turning on or off that makes a pretty...

Sounds like you are experiencing "water hammering". When the water valve shuts off quickly, the water which was flowing in the pipe must stop, and the momentum of the water suddenly stopping can cause the pipes to rattle or bang. Adding an air chamber would cusion that, and eliminate the banging. I have seen some (at a local Home Depot) which can screw onto the hose right where it connects to the hosehold shut off valve behind the washer.

My GE tfx27f is working fine but when the

the thump ing sound is probably the rubber mounts under the compressor . they go hard and do not insulate the compressor . . pry the comp up on all four mounts and make sure they are loose and not stuck down if ther are hard and not bouncy .. replace them . if compressor has borken internal motor mounts / there is nothing you can do . but put up with noise ..

Whirlpool top freezer refrigerator- compressor makes a loud noise

The compressor is that black casing you see at the bottom of your refrigerator - inside this sealed case is the motor assembly which stits on 3 or 4 springs that act like a cushion - you have a little gap at the bottom where the lubricating oil is present. Your springs have likely worn out and when the compressor shuts off the assembly is banging against the rigid casing make that loud "klonk" or bang noise. It IS normal for compressor to make some faint "tick-tick-tick...tick.....tick" when shutting off, but loud banging, bell sounds, etc, means the assembly is banging on the case from the inside - you can indeed live with the noise, your compressor will function normally, probably for months, or even years - it can also keep wearing out and one day the noise might get very loud (like a very high humming noise) - There is NOTHING that can be fixed, you either pay $400+ to change the compressor or buy a new refrigerator - If you DO replace a compressor usually the replacement will be noisier - Keep a thermostat inside your refrigerator at all time to make sure your compressor is still keeping your refrigerator and freezer cool.

Loud thump from refrigerator when it shuts off???

If its a rattle, kind of a shake sound that ends in a phthump then its the compressor moving around after it has removed the heat from the unit. You may want new rubber mounts but I would leave it.

GE Refrigerator, Model TBX22ZA

One thing I might suggest is to check and see if the magnetic seal around the outside of the door is clean, tight, and fitted properly as this is one thing that can cause this condition.
