I have found graphics cards to be pretty generic. I'm currently using an nVidia GEForce 9800 GT. I'm happy with it. The question is which game are you trying to play. Look on the box for the specifications for a video card. Get one with a lot of video RAM so take the video processing load off your processor.
Fifa 11 Recommended Requirements:
CPU with Dual core processor (Core duo 2 or better). Intel Core2Duo @ 2.4Ghz on Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7.
1 Gigabyte of RAM (2 GB required for Windows Vista / Windows 7).
Compatible 3D accelerated 256 MB video card or equivalent (**must support Shader Model 3.0 or above). ATI RADEON HD 3870. NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GT
If your system does not support the above hardware requirements you cannot play this high graphics games & your get the E001 error.
right click on the game icon and click propreties. On the Compatibility tab check the "Run in compatibility with" box and select windows 98/Mil and then you will be able to play the game. Alternatively go to gamecopyworld.com and search for max payne and download a crack for the game witch will let you play the game on any OS even Vista or Windows 7
You can try running the game in another mode. I had a similar problem playing WOW but I fixed it. Here's how. 1)Create a desktop shortcut of the exe file of the game. 2)Right click on the shortcut and click properties 3)In the target field you will see something like "C:/Program files/teamfortress/tfrotress.exe" All you need to is click it and move the cursor to the end give a space and type -opengl. It would look something like this C:/Program files/teamfortress/tfrotress.exe" -opengl If it doesn't work try C:/Program files/teamfortress/tfrotress.exe" -direct3D One of these modes gotta work. My money would be on opengl. If it still doesn't run then try updating your graphics card driver and try again.
The processor upgrade defends on your motherboard if it supports a processor like Core2Duo, because it all depedns on the motherboard if you can upgrade processor and RAM ,if you buy a new processor and its not supported by your motherboard it will be a wast, but if your computer manufacturer told you that your motherboard can supports a processor like Core2Duo go ahead upgrade to it , that will definitely make teh computer faster and better sicne Core2Duo is a high end processor right now..
