Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television
I have an 8 year old Mitsubishi WS-65809 HDTV. Over the past few months when the set is initially turned on, the picture is distorted. The picture curves up at the bottom. Earlier it didn't take long before the picture returned to normal and stayed. Now it remains distorted as long as the set is on. Are my rear projection bulbs going bad or is it the intermittent connection on my convergence IC?
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
I also ordered the kit from Tvrepairkits.com for this TV. The colors would all separate about 2 inches apart so I would have a red person, blue person and a green person! I'd have to whack the tv to get it to stop for awhile. The IC's fixed the tv, but in my case the chips did not have to be replaced, only re soldered after coming loose. I put the new chips in anyway. Most convergence problems for this TV are cause by the IC chips either coming loose, or going bad. More specifically, They become loose, then go bad after time if they're not reattached. I've seen others with a bowing problem similar to yours and were able to fix it with this kit. If your going to attempt to do the repair, Make sure you get the right Wattage soldering iron, as too high will damage your board. I think I used a 40-watt, but that may be too high to recommend. I also suggest practicing your soldering skills on a blank circuit board before attempting the repair. Radioshack has them for like $1. Get some heatsinks or something cheap to solder to the board. I believe the Instructions you get tell you this also. I did so and learned to solder in about 25 minutes. FYI: The expensive board in the TV is much easier to solder to than the cheap stuff, so if you can get it perfect on the practice run, your golden.

My 9 years old Mitsubishi WS-55857 had the same problem (distorted pictures) for couple of months and I was about to buy a new plasma TV. But, I found TvRepairKits.com and I decided to give a try before buying a new TV. I received a convergence repair kit in two days with web site info for detailed instructions with many picutres to explain the process. When I had questions and Ed was very prompt to answer my questions thru the e-mail. I never done solding before, but I am moderate handy person. I spent less than $100 and three hours and my TV picutre looks stunning. I went thru advanced convergence process after I repalced the convergence chips and replaced RCA video cable with better quality and my TV picture looks as good as brand new. Thansk ED for your help!
