I asssume this is an older model, whn you say it won't turn on do u mean u get no idicator lights of any kind whern the player is turned on? or does it just not play the disk but does have an indicator light showing the unit is powered up?.

ok you most likely have a defective power supply or voltage regulator to the motor which shuts the unit down, there are no parts for this deck sold to the public, many manufacturers do this, to get it fixed you will need to take it to a approved repair center, u can locate these by contacting customer service which is listed in the user manual for the deck, but based on my experience you are far better off cost wise to just replace this deck than repair it, they will charge up to $80.00 just to look at it, and that is not repair it just diagnose the problem, average repair cost is around $200 USD

if your dvd player has no any power indicator at the front, the first place to be checked will be the power supply. look for a blown fuse bad component parts like shorted diode and an open resistance.

My guess would be that the switch inside that the tray hits to tell the dvd player it's closed is broken.

Drive won,t play discs and sometime won,t reconize that a disc is

If the "bad" disks work fine in some other DVD-player, then it's time to spend $40 and buy a new DVD-writer.

Or, if your current DVD-player is under the manufacturer's warranty, exercise the warranty, to get it repaired/replaced.
