Question about Dell OptiPlex GX240 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I'm trying to get a agp graphics card for my dell optiplex gx240 and i just order one on line which is a geforce2 mx400 64 mb ddr 4x is that the right one? Also i bought another agp card about a week ago(geforce2 mx 400 64mb sdr 4x) and when i inserted the card it tells me that is not supported. why? Is there a difference between a ddr and a sdram as far as the graphics card? Anyway i only have 16mb of video memory and i need at least 64mb for my kids to play wizard 101.

Hello Juanreyes,

The voltage on the Motherboard of Optiplex gx240 will not support the new card as its limited to agp 2x levels only.

I suggest buying, and installing one of the newer economical graphics (Video) cards, and do away with this problem.

Uses AGP graphics cards that are AGP 4X, or AGP 8X, and use 1.5 Volts. (DC)

GeForce2 MX brings the power of NVIDIA's second-generation graphics processing units (GPU) to desktop PCs and Apple Power Mac computers. The result - the same stunning visual experience PC users expect from NVIDIA GPUs. ??Leveraging the second-generation architecture of the GeForce2 GTS, GeForce2 MX is a robust GPU at mainstream price points. GeForce2 MX uniquely incorporates Digital Vibrance Control (DVC), which makes all images - including 2D, 3D, and video - brighter and crisper, even on digital flat panels, with the flexibility of the TwinView dual-display architecture.
    hope this helps you

Dell optiplex gx 260 180w power supply. My hp monitor's best resolution is 1920 by 1200 at 60hz. The gx can only manage 1600 by 1200 at 60hz. Have you a solution to this problem?

    Hi Trevarth,

The Optiplex GX 260 was outfitted with either Integrated Intel Extreme graphic or a 4x AGP video card. In either case if you try to change the resolution and 1920 X 1200 is not an option, the video card does not support that high of a resolution. If you want the higher resolution you will have to buy an AGP video card. When selecting a card, look at the specs and make sure that the higher resolution is supported. The good news is that AGP cards are not that expensive. Here are a couple site you can find video cards.

    http://www.nextag.com/4x-agp-video-card/compare-html

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=318&name=AGP%20Video%20Cards

You can find very cheap used one here:

    http://www.google.com/#q=4x+agp+video+cards&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&tbs=shop:1,p_ord:p&prmd=ivns&fp=a9f29339130ebba7

but be careful to check the specs before you order.

    Hope this helps

    I have a dell gx240 with a ati rage 16 mb agp

Um a ati rage 128 pro is not a very powerful card, and after win 98 there isn't any support for direct3d or opengl. So you will need to upgrade to a better card if you expect to play games.
