ZENITH TV OUT OF FOCUS

hi,
You tv have problem with the picture tube base socket. After a long year of use the contacts of the base socket will become dirty. You have to replace the base socket. You can find the base socket on the PCB which place on the picture tube neck
Remove the base socket and buy a new on with the same size and fix the new one. This will solve the of out of focus problem.

Have added the picture of base socket how its look like.

My tv looks 3d i have 3 pics and they over lap 1 green 1 red and the other blue i changed the FL231. FUSE and no change messed with the mirror also no change i have no idea what to do next

you need your convergence settings adjusted this is 10000 percent the problem a good tv repair shop will do it for under 100 dollars it should be done around every 3 years or so it is surprising you did not notice the quality reducing gradually over the last year or so before this has happened but i suppose some people don't pay as much attention as others when you have this adjusted the tv will be like brand new again the color and focus will be very crisp as these tvs have moving parts they become slightly out of alignment as the years go on but as long as they are adjusted they can literally last forever

Mitsubishi VS-6041 focus issue

Try adjusting the sharpness in your TV's menu. If it's not just that, then perhaps the tube/LCD display is simply degrading.

Picture out of focus. type or subtitles are fuzzy Have tried all picture adjustments in "menu"

As the CRT (picture tube) weakens the electron beam will loose some of its intensity. This will cause the beam to become a little wider, and thus the scanned picture will look softer or out of focus. Most of the time, the corners, top, and bottom tend to start getting worse than the center.

Sometimes the focus bias can be cheated a little. Some models of TV sets have a focus pot on the CRT circuit board, or on the high voltage multiplier. This control works in a high voltage area. I suggest you get experienced assistance for this. If you take the TV set over to a local TV shop or find an experienced tech, he could try to adjust the focus for you.

Considering the age and type of set you have, you would be better off getting a new up to date TV set.

Auto focus and manual focus(red+will not move left

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Blurry tv screen

If you are comfortable on doing adjustment with working TV then take off back cover of TV and check flyback transformer, there you would see 2 control knobs, upper knob if to adjust focus. rotate it CW or CCW to obtain maximum focus on TV screen.
Put back cover and enjoy.

Philips 34pw9818 fuzzy screen

Inside the set you should see a large part with a red wire coming out the top. That is the flyback transformer. There will be 1 or 2 controls on the back of it. One should be labeled screen and one focus. Carefully adjust the focus one until the picture is again in focus. Please note that in that area are high voltages (33,000V) that can be dangerous. Be careful where you touch. IT is best to have a mirror so you can see the picture while adjusting the focus control.

Picture changes focus/sharpness instantly and then recorrects

Hi

You can try and get more infornation for me.

Go into the the menu by pressing the WEGA GATE button on the remote. In the sub menu of picture adjustment switch the DRC-MF setting to off. It should read normal.

See if this stoppes your focus problem.

If it changes let me know for further directions.

Convergence images?

The blue picture tube of a projection tv is usually the weakest in ability to focus and in most cases loses its focus ablility before the red and green. Connect a cross-hatch generator to the rf inputs of the unit and check to see which areas are most out of convergence. The corners are usually the worst. HD will always bring out the slightest imperfections. If the unit was totally out of convergence, I would have suggested replacing the convergence IC'S.In my experience with rear projection, your problem is normal wear . You could conceivably improve the picture by adjusting the blue focus on the screen focus block. Scrivitron

*** I have to configure Colors with each power on. ***

The six controls you appear to be adjusting are the screen and focus controls for each of the three picture tubes. These usually only have to be adjusted as each picture tube ages or when replaced. You may either have a defective "focus block" i.e. the black box you have been adjusting, or the CRT's themselves may be going bad at this age. You will probably be money ahead to just replace the TV with a new HDTV set. At 13 years old, it shouldn't have much life left in it anyhow.
