Question about Delta T13420 Chrome Classic Single Handle Monitor Pressure Balanced Tub and

1 Answer

Shower faucet does not switch to hot.

I have a Delta Innovations Monitor 17 Series Volume Control T17030 shower faucet. When the water is turned on with the big handle and the little handle is set to cold, the water runs fine. As I turn the temp control handle (little handle) towards hot, the water begins to slow and eventually comes to a stop when the control is turned all the way to hot. It seems like the valve is working at that point as it is shutting down the cold as the control is turned to hot but no hot water comes out. The hot water valve is on the ''on'' positionI in the basement. I need to fix it. How?

Hi,

This has happened to me in the past and had exactly the same symptoms but with a different valve. Before trying the below, it may make sense to be 100% sure that hot water is definitely getting to the valve .. can you get access to touch the hot feed pipe to make sure that it is in fact the valve at fault.

The following could be the issue:

1. The shower valve has a bit of dirt or gunk in it and is unable to allow the hot water through. It can happen with a very small amnount of dirt and is a real pain as it requires disassemble of the entire valve assembly.

2. The valve has failed and needs to be replaced - This was the solution to mine and was also significant in terms of effort.

Hope this helps, if so please leave feedback, if not let me know and I'll try and help some more!

Check the water supply lines to the shower at the faucet handles. If the fitting for the hot water line connected to the handle is loose, it can twist and kink off the water supply further down the line when you turn the faucet handle. I'm not exactly sure how this could be relevant otherwise, but under normal design circumstances this type of scenario with your shower wouldn't matter for other faucets.

There should be a dirverter on the tub spout. It will be either a knob to pull up or a ring to pull down on and hold untill the water comes out the shower head.

If there is no dirverter go buy a new tub spout with one.. The prior owners may have installed the wrong spout.

Good afternoon, We have a 25yr old delta shower faucet and head. both work wonderful but the water is not all that hot- our new hotwater tank is set at 130 degrees. If i need to change the mix do i do it...

You don't change the setting on the faucet or behind the shower wall. You change the mix in the hot water heater itself. New hot water heaters are set at a relatively lower hot-water-setting for liability purposes. To achieve a hotter mix, take the cover plate off the hot water heater. You will see a dial setting that allows you to turn up the heat. Depending on what type of water heater you have, there might be two cover plates (lower and upper). If so, you'll need to adjust both of these.

Water is not very hot.

First try adjusting the pressure balancing gear located right behind the handle. If you still do not have hot water I suggest to replace the cartridge.

hi roger,

Sorry Delta 1300 and 1400 series valves do not have a volume control. Kinda odd but that is how they are made.

Please rate this response and Good Luck, Phil
