Question about HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC Desktop

HP IQ770 TouchSmart doesn't load up or stay on

Hi. My HP IQ770 TouchSmart will not stay powered on. Everything seems fine, all lights and fans on and I can get a disk into the CD drive (and eject it), but the unit only stays on for around 20 seconds before closing down - almost as if the power button has been held in. Have read lots about the Seagate hard drive issues, but this one is the 7200.10. It would make sense for it to be a HD issue, the screen appears to be fine and lights up white but with no content. Can anybody help?

    Further to this:
I took out the HD and tried to boot from Vista CD, no joy. I also removed the RAM and tried to boot, the system beeped at me and stayed on so it looks like there's a problem between power on and engaging the hard drive that's causing it to auto shutdown. Again, any ideas appreciated.

If pressing F11 ("system recovery") does nothing, then your disk-drive, which contains a "system recovery partition" is inaccessible,
i.e., your disk-drive has failed.

You'll need to buy a new disk-drive, install it, and use the original "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks to reinstall Windows onto the new disk-drive.

Had the same problem. Run part number 5188-7284 through Google. You can find fans for $50 - $100. Go for it!

Vista installation problem.

Make sure that your CD/DVD drive is set as the first boot device in BIOS, then insert the Vista setup cd and reboot. Installation should now be automatic.

Hp IQ780A has a2discs stuck in the dvd drive

Woah! You don't want to hear this but forcing a second disc into the drive has probably destroyed the drive read head. They are pretty tough and it might be able to survive but you will most certainly have to dismantle the drive to remove the DVD and not create any more damage. Kind of like scraping someone elses car in a parking lot. More damage is done when you try to back off of the other car than the initial hit. (not like that's ever happened to me :) )

You need to lay your pc down flat and take off the side. Once you do that be sure to touch the casing to ground yourself and start unplugging all the power leads from your cd/dvd drive(s), harddrive(s), etc..
Once you have all the leads unlugged there should be 4 screws on the back of your PC holding the power supply. Take those out and carefully pull the power supply out from the side that is opened.

Think I should read the dates on the posts before i reply, lol:P Oh well maybe it'll help someone else:)

I have an HP Touchsmart computer. When I put a data or audio CD in my DVD/CD drive, it sounds like it is going to start up, the light comes on like it is going to run, but nothing happens. Sometimes, it...

CDs means totally nothing. sorry....
what CD? , a CD-R? CD-RW, or a store bought CDDA disk
all 3 are different. (or DVD? of vast types too...)
my guess you meant CD-R. (CD record-able)
TouchSmart IQ770 PC Desktop? 2007 carbon date?

what OS, XP, VISTA or W7?

My guess its bad media or bad CD drive.
only way to prove that is use new CD-R burned on good system slow.
say using the great free utility called, imgburn.

first try a real disk, from a store, from the Music section
called CD-DA disk, play it , if it plays the CD drive might be ok.
then try what I call rubber disks, recordable. CD-R
using pro grade disk burned correctly.
buying the cheapest media can be a nightmare. here.

tell HP your OS
the as an example (i guessed OS, means operating system)
install this up date, called HP HP Personal and Pocket Media Drive Driver Update

here.
