This may sound silly, but did you have your finger over the mic on the camera? Its just underneath the lens at the front.
I have generally found that the sound on movies taken with this camera is poor, you need the sound source to be quite close to the camera for clear sound.

The sound on all the movies on our tv is soft voice and loud music. How can I set the volume to be the same for both?

Some TV's have sound settings to empathies voice. If the TV has a centre speaker you can increase the sound output on that. That will make voices louder.
However many people do complain about loud music drowning out voices on TV. The problem is that movies were meant to be seen in cinemas and TV sound systems don't match up to that. If you can't find a solution consider a surround sound system as this will correct the sound problems on movies.

Yamaha RX-V575 sound issue

try other sound settings first, eg music, stadium, games, all the other sound options. if same results your centre speaker could be gone. or you need to increase the volume of the centre speaker in setting mode. do this first before assuming the speaker is no good. hope this helps

The best Rec. levels

As with all recording levels it's best to keep them to a max of 0 VU on the level meter. Some say an odd peak into the red or above 0 VU is acceptable, but it should not go to high. Sett it on the loudest part of what you are going to record, then the rest of the time should be OK. Try some loud music first if it's all speech. That should set the right level for the speech. It is possible to increase the audio level on Audacity afterwards anyway.

Hi, i have a Denon PMA 735 R amplifier which shuts down when volume increases suddenly.

Sounds like you have output transistor problems. Does it have a red protection light that comes on when it shuts down? If it does it will need serviced.

Whenever I am watching a movie or playing a game and there is a sudden increase in volume (such as an explosion) the volume lowers suddenly to "normalize" it. After a few seconds it returns back to normal...

Hi Metallica309

A lot of flat screens have pretty over-reactive 'normalising' controls. I have a Wharfedale flat-screen which 'compresses' any extra sound to the point where it's impossible to understand speech.
Start by hitting 'Menu' on the tv - then select 'Sound' - then lookout for AVL (Auto Volume Level) or 'Normalise'. DESELECT the AVL.

O.K. - so it's going to sound louder for explosions and quieter for whispers - but that's what real life is really like !

You may have similar settings hidden away on your other devices - do the same with them. The cumulative effect of a string of devices (all with AVL on) leads to auto audio mayhem.

Try it - and good luck.

When I try to download a MPG file from my Sony DCR-SR40 to my Windows XP workstation, there is no sound. What am I missing?

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:
  1. Ensure your computer speakers are turned on (and plugged in if applicable).
  2. Ensure the computer volume is not muted.
  3. Increase the volume level on the speakers or use the volume level control in the computer operating system.
  4. If there is still no sound when playing back the recorded movie files, convert the audio format of the file.
    1. Start the ImageMixer for HDD Camcorder software.
    2. Begin playing the movie file in the software.
    3. Click the Convert audio format button.
    4. In the Browser window, click the Next button.
    5. In the Browse for Folder window, click to select the desired folder location to save the movie.
    6. Click the OK button.
    7. In the Browser window, click the Yes button.
    8. Click the OK button.
