This may sound silly, but did you have your finger over the mic on the camera? Its just underneath the lens at the front. I have generally found that the sound on movies taken with this camera is poor, you need the sound source to be quite close to the camera for clear sound.

The reason you get no sound on playback of videos is that this camera has no Microphone. This is one of the most disappointing features of the camera as whilst it has video capability it has no ability to record Audio.
Vivitar have omitted this feature on several models to keep costs down and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it in terms of adding audio.
If you have a video editing program on your computer you may be able to add a voice over or a soundtrack to the video by using this method but no original audio can be recorded.
Hope this clarifies the issue. Thanks for using FixYa.
Page 104 of the advanced camera manual explains how to enable the microphone to be able to record movies with sound. If you do not have that manual it can be downloaded from www.olympusamerica.com website
Hi there, Have you gone into the menu part that states turn mic on or off, to see if it is turned on? If it is on, then you may have poor connections inside or audio electronic problems. This may need a technician to give you an accurate estimate.
