Semosmt, Your monitor's internal electronic "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" fails to sustain output of high voltage to the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" (2) that are hung on the reverse side of the glass LCD panel that you look at. Learn how to perform the "flashlight" test and interpret the results! Is your LCD panel "black" or is it both "black and "blank"??? If free warranty service from DELL not an option, then you should ask DELL about a cash+old unit swapout for a refurbished unit with new inverter/ccfl lamps. If that not option, you or a qualified electronics technician will need to inspect and repair your unit!If you need to visually SEE just what is inside a typical CCFL backlit LCD monitor, then go visit YOUTUBE and check-out the longer and more informative video clips of "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" !!! Moses, remember this: Your monitor is NO DIFFERENT than any other BRAND ( LG, Acer, Samsung,Gateway) in it's BASIC design and operation!!!! There is a very good chance that your monitor can be repaired because you stated "displays the desktop" in your complaint!!! YOU need to do more READING to fully understand the root cause of your need to visit FIXYA in the first place! Do your research first before you do anything. I hope this was of some help. 12fixlouie bye for now.

Why does screen go black after a few seconds

Hope this helps.... Your monitor has an inverter issue. You know it's an inverter problem when:
1. Your monitor starts normally and displays the startup/desktop screen for a while.
2. Then it suddenly goes off, leaving a blank (black) screen or a very dim display.

To fix this black screen problem, change the inverter board (based on your monitor brand).

Screen is blank. When turning the power button off and then back on the screen will eluminate correctly but goes blank again after a second.

Have to try a defferent monitor to diagonais a problem but if its showing all your booting process after switching on nothing wrong with your monitor, but if keeps on restarting itself after boot up process ,I'd say that your system error corrupted. Need to reload your sytem.

I have a Samsung SuncMaster 940BW 19'' LCD Monitor. It's a geat Monitor in my humble opinion in everything, except that since i got it i have one problem with it, and it wasnt possible for me...

This is a common problem with monitors when changing resolution. What probably happened is you may have tried to change the resolution, or an application changed the resolution, to an incompatible resolution.

For example, if you have a tiny little screen it can't display that huge resolution that a 32 inch monitor has. So, your monitor is stuck in that wrong resolution.

To fix this problem, you need to boot into Safe Mode. Restart your computer, and as it is booting up tap F8 a bunch of times, and then select Boot into Safe Mode.

When it boots up, right click on the desktop, click Properties (Windows XP) or Screen Resolution (Windows 7). When the window pops up, click Settings (if on Windows XP, if on Windows 7 skip to next step). From this window, change the resolution back to the basic 800 x 600 screen resolution.

Now, reboot your computer normally. You should be able to see the desktop. Now, you can do the same thing that you did in safe mode and turn up your resolution. BUT, when you change it, if the screen goes BLANK again, DO NOT press anything. After 15 seconds it should go back, and you can try a lower resolution.

Hope this helps! Thanks for using FixYa.

Screen going blank on system boot and on switch off/on

Hello,

It is the picture picture board on your monitor that is malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on, but the display screen goes blank after a fraction of seconds, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Blank HP w1907

If the power light does not turn color and stay's green on startup, it is not a power problem. It is most likely the inverter. If the unit is in warranty, send it out ASAP. Contact HP customer care by email and have the issue logged in.
If in warranty, they will send you a box by FedX second day and have repaired.
This is a 19" monitor and will not be worth paying for repairs if not in warranty.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

LCD monitor goes blank

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)
