That model ships with Windows XP, which tends to make it highly regulated. In order to recover it to factory defaults you'll need to order a recovery disc from Acer technical support.

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

Blank screen

Most likely a very nasty virus.
Download and burn to a disk a Linux Live-Cd like http://pclinuxos.com/  Then go into the BIOS and change the boot order - put the cd first. Now boot from the Linux disk and recover all your files. Next boot from your recovery disk and reinstall Windows.
And next time use a better antivirus.

Cant get into the network center on my acer aspire 1 ,

If this is an aspire One with linpus lite linux,

The network center disappearing is an issue with the linux update server that seems to corrupt the OS.

The solution unfortunately is to reload the OS from the recovery disk.

The aspire ONE does not come with an ODD so you will need to use the disk on a unit that has an ODD to make the recovery USB flash drive.

You will need a USB flash drive that has at least 2GB of storage, a computer with an ODD, and the linpus recovery disk that came ywith your unit.
1. Boot to the linpus disk, one of the options should be to make a recovery USB drive, make sure that no important data is on this USB drive as it WILL be formatted and erased.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions and then insert the recovery flash drive in to the USB slot of the Aspire ONE.
3. Re-start the Aspire ONE and press F2 to go in to setup.
4. Change the boot order to boot from "USB HDD" and press F10 to save and exit.
5. Unit will reboot and recovery will start.

I have 1recovery **** named aspire 5610 dvd2 should i have a dvd1 disk also

go to http://www.sysresccd.org/Download
download the iso and burn it to a cd.
boot your computer with it
read the explanations coming up on the screen and when you see that you can choose how to start, type "wizard"
choose the top choice (auto)
when it starts right click on the desktop and start GPARTED.
one of the discs will be marked as "boot"
right click the disc called "recovery" (or the one that is not marked as boot).
choose manage flags
set it to Boot.
press apply on top (not always needed tho)
in the left picture (the one that opened from the start)
type reboot
remove the cd when you see the acer logo again.
the acer recovery manger should start.

PC - Immediate Auto-Shutdown

Hi sk8teroy, it could be either. Desktop systems & notebooks will shut down all by their self’s if the CPU starts to over-heat. This is a fail safe so the system does not fry. Go to the link below & download the eSettings Management Guide in PDF format. (If this software is not currently installed into your system you should be able to find it on the Acer CD's & install it). http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer%20eSettings%20Management%20for%20DT.pdf
This software will check some important system settings.
Your Aspire SA20 was made around 2005. If you have never cleaned the interior of the PC please do so. If you have the option of using an air compressor, blow the system out. (Careful not to hit the CPU fan or any fan in the system with the nozzle). Blow out the power supply as well. If an air compressor is not available than use canned air assisted with a 1" or 2" clean paint brush to help remove dust build-up under the fan blades. If you Acer has an adjustable air vent on the side of the case, make sure it is opened fully. Your system needs plenty of fresh air.
I'm guessing the SA20 came with 512MB of memory. The built in video card is set to use 32MB of system memory. It’s real hard to play Counter-Strike with 32MB of video memory. I'm surprised you’re even able to get the game started yet play it. You have plenty of CPU power to play any game but you need more memory. Not having enough of memory will not cause your system to shut down. Depending on the application in use & having too little memory can & will cause windows to freeze from time to time but rarely shut down a system. Here is a link to upgrade your Aspire SA20 memory. This memory will run with your current memory.
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=Aspire+SA20+memory&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
Once you increase the memory size you can set the Aspire SA20's bios to use 128MB or 256MB for the graphics card. Your games will run 100% faster & smoother. Windows will like it too.
If you never ran windows system defrag, please do so. This will help your hard disk drive plenty.
To run defrag left click the start button & slide up to All programs, than slide up to Accessories than to System tools & click Disk Defragmenter. I am pretty sure your system will stop shutting down if you follow these suggestions.
If you need more help or have more questions just post them here & I'll jump right in.

Good luck sk8teroy!
Mike
