CONFIG 1*

If the printer is showing "CONFIG 1*" this is not an error, this message is simply advising that Menu CONFIGuration 1 is selected hence the * beside the message.
Assuming the settings in CONFIG Menu 1 are correct if you send data to the printer in the correct format it should print.

My brother laser will not reset back to factory defaults

If you are using the printer in a LAN or Wireless LAN, you must assign to it an IP address compatible with your network. You do that by opening the Web admin interface of your router and assigning to the printer an address that is still free. Try 192.168.1.178 but that depends on the default gateway (192.168.1.1) that you defined for your router.

Hp laserjet P2055dn - print config report indicates IPv6 Address, will not network print. How can I clear this?

IPv6 is upgraded from IPv4 (Internet protocol).. Its implemented in 1994 this adres is stored in DNS, it is no way connection with the printer, when the printer is connected through lan net work, auto IP adress will assign by the DNS server depend up on the settings.. you can change the desire IP adress with the family range. If the printer is not showing IPv6 adress, system administrator can help you in this regards depens upon their permissions. Selected printer IP adress ahould be with in the family range and no IP conflict definately printer will work..

J4167A jetdirect card not ready LAN ERROR-OPEN

if it is recognizing the jet direct card then the card should be good, not sure if yor network is setup for using dhcp but I usually deal with manual settings on these cards. I'm sure you know what your doing but it doesnt hurt to bounce it off others anyway.

I'll assume you know how to access the eio settings for the jetdirect from the menu screen.

choose manual setup instead of dhcp and keep all the othr settings at default except these other 3

1. You'll need to assign a manual I.P. address

2. you'll need a subnet mask I.P

3. You'll need a default gateway...

If you have other printers online then the subnet mask and default gateway should match the other printers but the actuall printer I.P address will of course be different... Hopefully this will help you out, and if so please write this a FixYa!!

Just stop printing

turn off power, remove the JetDirect Network card if present. turn back on and see if it gets to READY state. If yes, you have a bad JetDirect card.

If still having problems, might be a formatter issue/engine board or other factor, need more info for better diagnosis.

Thank you

My hp 4250 printer makes multiple config sheets,,its set to the default of 1 copy (s)

Hi,

Please perform Cold Reset and then upgrade the firwmare of the printer
HP LaserJet 4250 and 4350 Series Printers - Performing a Cold Reset NOTE: The Jetdirect LAN (such as the IP address of the printer) settings will be reset to defaults by this operation. Record LAN settings before resetting the printer. Reconfigure LAN settings after the reset if you are using a LAN connection). To avoid resetting the LAN settings disable the embedded Jetdirect before performing a Cold Reset by choosing the Disable LAN option from the choices available when you get to step 5 below. Note that after choosing to disable the LAN it is necessary to reboot the printer and then choose to perform the Cold Reset . During the power up sequence only one operation can be performed at a time. In this case, first disable the LAN, then reboot the printer and perform the Cold Reset followed by another reboot to reenable the LAN.
To perform a cold reset:
  1. Turn the printer power off.
  2. Power on the printer and watch for the memory count to begin.
  3. Hold down the SELECT (Checkmark) button, when you see the memory count begin.
  4. Continue holding down the SELECT (Checkmark) button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.
  5. After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the UP ARROW button or the DOWN ARROW button until COLD RESET appears on the display
  6. Press the SELECT (Checkmark) button. The printer performs a cold reset and then continues its power-on sequence.
  7. Check all I/O settings and reset any user-set printer configuration values. NOTE: Before the I/O (LAN) settings can be reset to their correct values the embedded Jetdirect must first be renabled to make those options visible and available on the control panel of the printer. Renable it in the control panel settings then reset them to their correct values.

How to connect this to D link Router

There should be one for the USB and one for the LAN then. The one you need is the LAN port, it should look like a telephone jack, but it will have 8 pins instead of 4 like the phone jack. Just plug a normal LAN cable into it, and hook the other end to any of the loose LAN ports in the Router, just as if it was a normal computer. Then refer to the manual that came with the printer to acces the LAN options, cause in many cases you will need to tell the printer what IP address to use so that the computer can see it. If you did not change the setting in your D-Link Router, then the adress range will need to be in the 192.168.0.* range. The router itself has the address 192.168.0.1 and your computers will usually have an address like 192.168.0.100 and up. So as long as the printer has an address that starts with 192.168.0 and that it has not the same address as any of the computers or router in the network, it will be fine. Of course, you cannot go past 255 though in the address, and it is the last valid number you can give, so best bet to have it seen by everything and not have it interfere with a new computer you might add or anything, just tell it to use address 192.168.0.255 and you should be fine for a while. Now all you need to do is to go into the printers setup on the computers you it to work with and add a new printer. Tell the setup wizard to look for printers connected of the LAN and it should find it and install it by itself from there. Voila, now you have a working LAN printer.

NO CONNECTION (LAN) on Brother MFC-440CN

I had the SAME problem. I have 3 pc laptops and 1 Mac. The Mac could still print, but the pc's were hosed. I called BrotherUSA and this fixed the problem!

Go to your printer and after making sure it's connected to the network with the Ethernet cable, go to Menu > Print Reports > Network Config. This will print a page that shows your printer's IP address. We need to config that address in your Printer, Fax and Scanner settings in Control Panel.

Go to Control Panel > Printers & Faxes. Right click on your printer > Properties > Ports tab. Click Add Port and select Standard TCP/IP Port. Click New Port and click Next on the wizard. Enter the IP address of your printer in the first field (the second one will auto-fill). Click Next and Finish. Printer's done!

Right click on your PC-FAX in Printers & Faxes and Properties. Click on the ports tab and just check the box that you just created for Standard TCP/IP Port. Click OK. Fax is done!

Go back to Control Panel and select Scanners & Cameras. Right click on your printer/scanner > Properties > Network Setting tab. Select the Specify your machine by address radio button and, if it's not already in there, enter the IP address of your printer. Click OK. Scanner's done!

This will work as long as your router is running. You may need to repeat this process after a power outage or if you need to reboot your wireless router. Not too bad, though! I just wish everything was as easy as a Mac!!!
