go to the website that manufactures the card and then install the vista driver you will need to ensure that the device is removed in control panel first otherwise vista will duplicate the device.
then go into windows vista network connections and enable the wireless card and request it connects to network.
you will need to allow it access at the firewall or it will not connect

In your router configuration, activate WPA2 encryption with a 64 bit key. Get a random key here:
http://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Use this key to use the router connection with other computers in your home.

If you cannot get a D-Link setup disk, then you can configure the D-Link using IE browser.
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps :-
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address. (http://192.168.0.1)
3. Enter the router setup, login and password (login=admin PW=blank)
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

How do I put a WEP KEY on my d-link wireless router

To set up a security on your wireless network, you will need to open the set up interface of the router.
You must have a computer connected top the router with the cable.
Check the IP address of the computer. Click START. Go to RUN ==> in the RUN box type cmd and click ok. you will see the command prompt. in the command prompt type in " ipconfig " and hit ENTER on your key board.
now you will find the Default gate way number. That is the IP address of your router. note down the default gateway number.
Open the Internet browser Like Internet Explorer of Firefox.
In the address bar, type the default gateway number. do NOT type http:// or www. click go or hit hit enter.
It will ask you for the user name and the password. that is the password of your router. for most of the router the default password will be " admin ". If you have changed the password of the router then you can try that password.
It will open the set up page of your router.
On this page you will all the settings that you can change on the router.
Go to the wireless setting tab and you will find the option for wireless security. Here you can change the wireless security.
Remember your computer will be hard wired to the router till the time.

I went to the Proxim website (www.proxim.com) to see if I could find info on the card, but Proxim looks like they make you register before you can get any information.

You probably just need a Vista driver. Go to the Proxim site, register, and see if one is available.

Good luck.

Factory reset of my router

Hello garnett,

First what is the brand of your router? you gave the information on your wireless adapter card but not the router.

Ok, most routers have a reset button push and hold the reset button until the unit goes off and then on again (cycles). This should reset it to factory settings.

Sometimes you may need to press the button once and then press and hold until it resets.

This should allow you to get to a factory default state,

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Proxim Orinoco 8482-WD PCI Card, Driver installation locks Win-XP

Try the other way around, first install the card then boot the system up. When Windows finds the card and asks for the driver, insert your driver cd and choose install driver manually and point windows to your cd drive to force the use of the correct driver. It may be that windows is trying initially to install the generic driver.

INSERT PROXIM CARD-GETTING PCI DEVICE?

It may be that the driver being used ia a generic one that Windows updated if it's on automatic, and not the driver you got with the adapter. Start from beginning again, uninstal card and drivers if still there, but make sure Windows looks to your installation CD for the driver and not a Windows generic one. You may have to re-start your system, and make sure your router sees the card in it's ip address allocation.
