There are several ways to do this yourself ..but most of them presumes connecting the hdd to a pata bus...
take a look and see if your laptops have 2 places for hard disks ...most of them have ...if you have a second place ..connect the hdd on the laptop ..and just copy the files you want to the other partitions...
The issues can apper when there is an functional windows installed on both and you are trying to boot with them both will have to choose the windows you want to boot into..
if they are both functional this is not quite important cause the data will be transfered by copy paste (or cut ) from one to the other and you can get some points to recognize which is which ...
if you do not have a second port to connect the hard disk but you still have a functional windows on the old onne ..just connect it back ..and boot it up ..and retrieve the data on disks..or memory flash ..or so ....and after that just copy them on the other hdd..
if the hard disk is not with a functional windows on ...and you only had one partiton on it reinstalling is out of question cause it will erase the data have to get a adapter ..and plug it in usb ..and get the data from it ...and my opinion this is the safest way ..I will look for an adapter (rack ) ..and link you to buy a cheap one ..if I find...
It will cost you about 11 bucks.. if you are from the States..(free shipping for USA)..and you will be able to use it for making almost any hard disk into an external use..its a great tool ..I got one too ..
The last posibility case you do not want to buy anything ..and you do not have a working windows in that hadd is to try and make a repair on the windows on it ..and after that boot and get the files on dvd or cd ..or flash drives memory ....

I overlooked on the specifications and i sow that there is no second hard disk port to plug it the remaining posibility is to get a adapter and plug it in usb ..and get the data ..or to plu it ..and use a usb flash memory to get the data and store in another computer ..and after that plug back the new hard disk ..and move them with the usb flash stick into it...
Ill still go for the adapter if I was you ..cause the tool remain not expensive and its a great use in the future...if the hard you replaced is functional can use it like an external one with this adapter /...and enlarge the storage capability

We have a Windows XP system on a 14 year old Dell computer.. We are desirous of transferring data from that system to a new computor. My husband purchased an Acomdata Hi-speed 2.0 external hard drive...

If both your Dell and the hard drive have USB ports you may be able to download directly. Other wise you may purchase an external drive and load the data to that. The external drive almost certainly will connect by USB.

Can I transfer downloaded games from my old xbox360 to my new xbox360

If your console was recently repaired or if you've purchased a new console, use the license transfer option on your console to transfer content licenses. Here's how:
  • On your console, sign in to Xbox Live using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.Don't know your gamertag? See Download, move, or delete your Xbox Live profile.
  • Need to find your Microsoft account? See Find your Microsoft account.
  • Can't remember the password for your Microsoft account? See Recover your Microsoft account password.

  1. Go to Settings and select Account.
  2. Under Your Billing Options, select License Transfer.
  3. Follow the instructions to transfer the content licenses.
  4. After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. For information about how to do this, see Download content you've previously purchased.
After you follow these steps, content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you're not connected to Xbox Live.

Need to install new hard drive, but want to keep game saves etc. Do I install drive and simply use transfer cable to retrieve dat from old drive?

That's exactly what you do. Once you transfer the information, it will no longer be on the old hard drive. In other words, it will move the information, not copy.

For more information, check Microsoft 360 Support website at the following page:

I want to pull info off a hard drive & put onto a disc.

If your new computer doesn't accommodate the drive then you will need a three and a half inch hard drive enclosure to put the hard dive in from the other computer.
You will have to look at the drive to work out which type enclosure you will need.
It will either be a SATA connection like this >>>>

Or a IDE/ATA connection like this >>>>

If you compare the connections on these examples you will one has plastic connections and one has brass pin connections.
As soon as you know which type of drive you have you can then proceed to purchase an enclosure.
When you have got the correct enclosure all you have to do is install the drive and connect it your new computer.
You will be able to access the drive, copy your data and use the drive as an external hard drive.

Motherboard died on my Toshiba Satellite A105 S4334

That is a tricky one. Guessing that you already have the new laptop, there is a usb adaptor that accepts SATA, IDE 3.5" and IDE 2.5" drives. You plug your drive into this adaptor, and plug the usb into your new computer. Now you can access all of the files on the old hard drive.

Transferring data from an external hard drive

Best solution is to make an image of the PC and then use that image to transfer it back. Norton Ghost is a good application for that, but there are more.

How can I repin a hard drive so I can download information?

I've actually had a Hard Drive running with a missing pin. However, somewhere along the line it will give blue screen errors, but atleast may give you enought time to get what you can off it.
