Question about Dremel 400 Series Xpr Rotary Tool Kit with Xpr Multisaw and Xpr Planer Attachment 400 - 6/90

Open Question

My new Dremel 400 series has had plenty of use in the past few weeks. The brushes wore out rather quickly, but I ordered a new set. The problem is the brush doors.I have followed the instructions and found it very difficult to remove the old brushes. I have found it virtually impossible to fit the new ones and have damaged one of the doors. Too much force is required to close the doors as per diagram(for such a delicate part) I need advice on how to do this properly and would like to know how I can obtain online a spare brush door (probably need 2,as I have no faith that this won't happen again. ..Thanks ...Mark.

SOURCE: dremel 400 xpr stopped working.

It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag

SOURCE: new dremel 4000 used very little is missing the

Dremel has all their replacement parts right on the shelf at walmart, brushes, caps, chucks, the works. You found the cap, the brush is a little carbon square attached to a wire with a spring on it. Real simple. Buy a pair and get it fixed up. My favorite tool.

How do i know if my dremel brushes are worn

A problem I've found with Dremel and others there's a polarity issue with them---if you use a lead that is not polarized it drives the electronics & electronic speed control nuts if not burn it out---polarity is that the lead has one wide blade on the plug so it will not go in the receptical but only one way & the same on the receptical end. This doesn't mean that the problem but if it's cooked you should get another one---if the price is heavy---check with dremel for diagram/schematic for parts---they may even have a trouble shooting section----from here can't really get a handle on this cause it's not in my hands to check(VOM)---you also could have bearing problems causing the armature to rub on the fields---some tools change the 120ACV input to dc via bridge rectifier so actually the motor is DC---I could go on for a long time listing issues you could have due to so many variables of these machines---best I can do from here for now

Motor gets hot very quickly and the brushes are still very good

could be the bearings or the armature rubbing the field. if you had it apart make sure the electrical parts are seated fully.

I was just using my 400XPR and it stopped running cold. Could I have burned out the motor? There's no smell that would indicate that.

Could be the brushes burned out. Don't panic, they are user replaceable. If you have the user guide it should explain exactly how to do it. If you don't have the guide you'll first need to get a set of replacment brushes from a larger hardware store. Make sure to get brushes for your model. On the side of the tool are black slotted caps that can be unscrewed BE CAREFUL THE SPRINGS UNDER THE SCREW CAP CAN GO FLYING. With the cap removed the old brush will fall out and can be replaced with the new one. 2 brushes, one on each side are needed. The 400XPR is a newer model so if this doen't repair it, there may be a defect in the tool.

How to change 400 xpr brushes

I went to Dremel.com and found a parts explosion for this tool and the shunt appears to be connected to the brush holder. It is a little fuzzy on the print. If you go to their site they have a toll free number that you can talk with a tech and they will be glad to help. If I have helped you with the problem would you please rate this response accordingly and thank you.

Something amazing just happened! On my monitor screen, window popped up that said, "ASK A QUESTION - LET OUR EXPERTS SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM FOR FREE".

I couldn't resist getting expert advice for free, so I clicked on the window. I was immediately taken to a magical world where I can pay for expert advice. I opted not to pay for expert advice. The next day, I was asked if the help I received was helpful. So here I am posting this response. I haven't received any expert advice yet, but when I do....!
