Set a new Windows Explorer launch folder When you run Windows Explorer, it always opens to the Libraries folder. That's fine if you use Microsoft's default file organization, which designates Libraries as the overall container for your folders. But what if you don't? You might prefer to have Windows Explorer open to Computer or any other folder you choose. Here's how to do it:

1. Right-click the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar (it's the one that looks like a folder), and then right-click the Windows Explorer icon from the context menu that appears and select Properties. The Windows Explorer Properties dialog box appears.

2. You'll have to edit the Target field on the Shortcut tab of this dialog box in order to change the default location at which Explorer opens.

If you want Explorer to open to a specific folder, simply enter the name of the folder, substituting your folder name for Folder, below, like this:
%windir%\explorer.exe c:\Folder

So to open Explorer to the folder named Budget, you would type this in the Target field:
%windir%\explorer.exe c:\Budget

If you want Explorer to open to special, pre-set locations, such as Computer, you'll need to enter special syntax in the Target field. Following is a list of three common locations and the syntax to use, followed by the syntax for the Libraries folder in case you ever want to revert to the default.
  • Computer: %windir%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
  • My Documents:%windir%\explorer.exe ::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}
  • Network: %windir%\explorer.exe ::{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}
  • Libraries: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe

3. After you've changed the Target field, click OK. Next time you launch Windows Explorer, it will open to the new location you've designated.

I was trying to install Adobe Design Standard and I set the resolution to high. Now the computer and the monitor are out of sinc and I get this message: Analog Input Cannot display video mode I have a...

try to look for documentation on you lcd display.. usually lcd displays have a native resolution and attempting to work with a different one, although possible, is not recommeded. if you don't remember what your previous resolution settings were try to use system restore by going to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and restore to an earlier time (no data will be lost) and if you go back before you install adobe design.. you may have to reinstall it again.

hope this helps.

How do i configure my Barracuda7200.10 AS PRIMARY MASTER

When more than one hard drive is installed on a computer system, each drive competes for control of the computer. To allow both drives to work in harmony on the same computer system, the controlling (or startup) drive is designated the master drive and the other drive is designated the slave drive. You can change this designation. The following procedure applies to any PC-compatible computer.
Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Challenging Things You’ll Need: Step 1 Decide which hard drive will be the startup (master) drive. If this drive was the startup drive previously, or if it's a new hard drive, then the master drive designation will already be set. Step 2To change the designation of a new drive to be a slave drive, skip to step 4. Step 3To change the designation of an existing drive to be a slave drive: Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord, remove the drive from its drive bay, and disconnect the drive from its power cord and ribbon cable. Step 4 Check the hard drive documentation or the label on the drive itself for master/slave jumper settings. Step 5Find the jumpers on the circuit board of the drive. Jumpers are plastic plugs with metal sleeves that form a circuit between a pair of pins. Jumper locations are labeled on the board with a J followed by a number (such as J20). Step 6Use tweezers or very small pliers to remove or reposition the jumpers to the configuration shown in the documentation or on the disk label. Step 7Install (or reinstall) the hard drive in the computer. (See "How to Install a Second Hard Drive.") build_pc_xp2000_maxtor_40gb_jumper_matchup.jpg Set to label on your hard drive. Different on every drive.

Maxtor IDE Hard Drive

You hard drive has drivers and was set to a different computer, thus enviroment. To make that hard drive work on your new computer - the Operating System will have to have a repair done to it - if you do a repair - you will not lose any docs or email, but, you will have to re-install programs to see the re-done Operating System, then you will have to load all the drivers that operate your new dell computer - if the new dell was not designed for XP and only vista - it will never read that Hard Drive till you install Vista on it.

I have a micro wireless keyboard, and I neeed a wireless mouse to match. Where can I buy one?

You could go to the place you bought the keyboard and see if they have a mouse too. If you want to use the same receiver though, the receiver (the part that plugs into the computer and communicates with the keyboard) you might consider purchasing a complete set, keyboard and mouse new. This has the advantage of using one USB connection on your computer. If you purchase a wireless mouse now and your receiver is not designed to support two devices, then you will use two USB connections.

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT FLASH DRIVES

USB (Universal Serial Bus) flash drives are high-speed, high-capacity memory devices designed for long-term data storage and easy transport among PCs. The host PC treats the device just like a drive, so you can transfer files of all types to and from the device. Because the device emulates a drive, it supports any type of file, including audio files (such as MP3s) and graphics files (such as JPEGs [Joint Photographic Experts Group] and BMPs [bit map]). In addition, USB flash drives can easily support applications, CAD (computer-aided design) drawings, and a wealth of personal information you'd rather not leave on any particular PC. Even so, most USB flash drives are smaller than a pack of gum and can easily fit onto a key ring.

Years ago, users often referred to the practice of using floppies to transport files among PCs as sneakernet. Because USB flash drive manufacturers designed these devices for transport among PCs, their increasing popularity has given rise to a "new sneakernet."
