Try it with 75Hz for the second monitor and use the VGA input.

USB/serial is only for configuration.

VGA-HDMI connection fail on Acer projector using adapter

You don't say whether or not the "adapter" is simply a gender-changer, or if it actually converts the digital signal from the HDMI port to an analog one for the VGA port. Some monitors have both analog and digital input capability and can automatically adapt to the the digital signal, even if applied to the VGA (analog) port. Other devices are not so smart and need an actual digital-to-analog converter style adapter.

Getting 'No signal ' response. What could be the reason?

try using a lower screen resolution on your PC,
Try checking that the signal you are sending to the projector is actually there

How do i get sound from my acer x1230 projector?

The acer x1230 projector has an audio mini-port on the back.

In order to utilize the speaker in the projector you will need to run a cable with a mini plug (same as your standard headphones) from your source to the projector.

On a side note, I would suggest using something else for your sound. Data projector speakers are akin to the internal speakers on a computer. The sound quality is not the best and the speakers on data projectors tend to not stand the test of time.

Your basic desktop computer speakers will give you better quality sound and they will most likely be louder as well. In addition, they use the same kind of port (mini) that you would use for the projector input.

I connect it to my MacBook Pro using a USB cable but it doesn't communicate

You can't use a USB port for a projector, unless the video bit rate is extremely poor.

you will need to use hdmi, dvid, or thunderbolt

DRIVER FOR WINDOWS VISTA

Hello r_l6,
This procedure for downloading drivers from the Acer Drivers Website may be useful. I hope you will find the vista driver for the projector on the acer support site listed in the procedure:

How to Download Drivers from the Acer Drivers Website
To update your Acer drivers manually, please follow the steps below.
1) Visit http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html
Step 2) Click the “Drivers & Utilities” on the left hand-side of the webpage.
Step 3) Choose the product that you want to download.
Step 4) Choose the Product Line
Step 5) Choose the Product Model
Step 6) Click on the Orange Arrow to Download the Product and Click on Setup to start the installation of the drivers
Once you finish the installation, you need to restart your computer for the updated drivers to take effect.

"no signal " on the screen

After half a day of tinkering around with my new Acer I fixed my problem, which I think is yours also. I connected it to my notebook, it read the signal 'D-Sub' or something like that, and after my notebook finished startup, it reverted to no signal. I tried it with my desktop and it worked just fine. The display will only show up on one output device. It worked fine on my desktop because I was unplugging my monitor in order to hook up the projector. Hooking the projector up to my notebook left the display panel still active and that was where it displayed. In case I'm not making sense, the solution is this: After setting everything up, hit Control+Alt+F1 to switch display from your screen to the projector. To switch back, hit Control+Alt+F3
