Question about Onkyo SKW-200 Subwoofer

No sound coming out of my Onkyo SKW-200 subwoofer

I recently noticed no sound coming out of my SKW-200 subwoofer. The standby light on the front of the speaker was red. I messed with a few things - disconnected and reconnected the speaker wire both at the back of the speaker and the back of the amp (even tried connecting a different cord), disconnected and reconnected the power supply to the speaker, pulled the circuitboard and checked the fuses (they both were fine), made a visual check of the various electrical components on the circuitboard and couldn't find any obvious visual defects (scorches etc.) and have never noticed any type of burnt odor, cycled through about every combination of "subwoofer mode", "speaker mode", "audio adjust" etc. During these primitive review processes, on a couple of occassions, the standby light on the front of the speaker turned green, but it now remains red. If anything I have baby'd my system and really never played it louder than 65, and not for extended periods of time above 55. I am super frustrated at the loss of the bass of my system and would appreciate any additional troubleshooting tips anyone can provide.

A subwoofer is just really a mono amp for the signal. As with all amps if you touch the audio section/parts with a small screwdriver, you should hear a buzz from the speaker. (Follow the audio wires to be certain you are on the audio section). This can be used for testing the amp section. If you get no buzz or noise (anywhere) at all then it's power supply could be playing up. If you have a multimeter you can test it looking to see if it is getting power. Allways suspect any part that is on a heatsink. Before removing any suspect you can put the part numbers into Google to see if you can get them and it will give you a clue to cost.
PS don't short any parts when you touch with a screwdriver, and don't put it on the power parts.

Onkyo skw 591 subwoofer...blue light is on and no sound? any thoughts?

Hello, To test the subwoofer when the blue light is on if you apply your thumb to the end of the subwoofer cable (the end that you would plug into the receiver) there should be feedback from the sub. If there is no feedback then the sub is not working correctly. Thanks, FJD

It's possible that you have accidentally switched off the sub-woofer outputs on the receivers. Onkyo have a speaker set up test. You should run that and see if the speakers are on and that a signal is getting through to them.

My onkyo subwoofer does not turn on the green ligth is not on, what could it be? is a swk-200

My Onkyo S/W did the same thing untill I unplugged it from the surge protector that all the other A/V devices are plugged into. I plugged the sub into it's very own wall recepticle with it's very own new surge protector. Maybe cleaner power is the answer.

Onkyo subwoofer not working

I fixed my subwoofer. The resistor at R16 (right next to the fuse) was the fried component. I removed it and replaced it with a 13K ohm 5 watt metal oxide resistor (from Mouser Electronics if not available locally). Works fine now. I got the solution and the circuit schematic from an audio hobbiest at diyAudio.com. This is, evidently, a fairly common problem.
