This sounds like a switch problem. We know that the motor works and the gears are okay when the shredder will work in reverse. That leaves the main power switch and the paper sensor switch in the feed slot. Failure of either of these switches can cause your problem. It probably is not the safety switch requiring the bucket to be in place since this switch needs to be activated for the shredder to work in either direction. The sensor switch is probably a standard single pole normally open micro-switch but the main switch is another matter and would probably have to be purchased from Fellows. Anyone with electronics experience can probably disassemble the shredder and replace the switches. If the problem is the main switch, I would recommend replacing the paper sensor switch while I am inside the guts of the thing. Even if you have to take the shredder to a shop, I think the cost should be significantly less than replacing this shredder. It's at least worth checking out.

Will not shred no matter what I try to do. I have run it backwards and forward and it still will not shred. Please advise and thank you.

If you want to keep it , I think you should dismantle it make a mental note of how you do it, free any paper jam and spray the cutter blades with a thin layer of WD 40 or similar then you should be good to go unless the motor is burned out from you constant on off testing

My shredder will only work in reverse.

There must be a button on the shredder you need to push so it works forward, this button has 2 options: forward for shredding, and backward to push caught papers out of shredder.

The schredder runs backward, but forward does not.

Take care, because this thing can also shred your fingers.
Remove the plug from the outlet and try to remove the paper under the rolls. Us a tool, not your fingers. It even would be better, if you could put the top upside down, so you could see where the bulk of paper is clothing the wheels and the sensor.
I think you already emptied the bag under the shredder, because the paper full sensor also prevents the shredder from running forwards.

I INSERTED A THICK OBJECT INTO MY FELLOWES SHREDDER. SOME WAS SHREDDED-HOWEVER MOST OF IT IS STUCK IN THE TEETH OF THE SHREDDER. i HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING-BUT NOTHING WORKS. HELP1

I did that in my shredder and had to use the backwards option for a long time...forwards then backwards and pulling out the material little by little. It is a slow process...you can sometimes pry it a little but make sure you don't insert anything while shredder is operating. I always unplugged mine when trying to tug the stuck paper out of it. You don't want to take any chances. Good luck!

Hi My PC Line shredder goes backwards as long as I want but will not go forward long enough to shred one sheet of A4.

If your shredder has an auto sensor "eye"to start it up automatically, check that it is clean you will see two windows near the paper mouth- give them a clean first thing. if not migvht be a switch or a burnt out motor in the forward direction ( or control circuitry)
Hope that helps

The shredder will run in reverse but will not run foreward.

Inside the shredder there is a motor which is wired to run both forward and backward, the way it does this is to transfer the power from the switch to a couple of wires on the motor
The forward running motor will be linked to the auto start button which will tell it to work with the paper sensor.
When you select the Forward function the Auto Start is taken out of circuit and the Forward switch should supply the motor

After all of that I would say that the switch is open circuit on the Forward contact and needs replacing

Paper stuck in the Fellows Paper Shredder

  1. Remove Shredder from paper catcher bin
  2. Remove shredder cover from shredding mechanism assemble (approx. 6 screws on bottom of cover)
  3. Separate shredding mechanism from bottom cover (may have disconnect circuit board from assembly and other wiring from switches , sensors, etc,)
  4. Remove motor gear cover (approx. 4 screws)
  5. Separate shedder main drive gear from motor step up gear by pulling gear out
  6. Turn shredder mechanism up side down to access the cutting blades
  7. Use an adjustable wrench to turn the main drive gear to see stuck paper
  8. Use a needle noise pliers to remove paper shreds
  9. Repeat step 7 and 8 until all shreds are remove and cutting mechanism move smoothly
  10. Reassembly before testing shredder
  11. If you remove only some of the shreds, the motor may seize up and strip the plastic gears from step up gear.

The scanner's paper sensor may be jammed. IT is sensint there is paper and hence scanning!. Try and fix it. Sensor may be optical or mechanical. If optical remove shreds of paper or dust. If mechanical ensure it moves forward and backward.
