How to remove the screen from the y510

The thin plastic 'frame' in the front of the LCD screen, is the Display Bezel.

Goes by many names. Display Bezel is used by HP.

Display Mask, LCD Bezel, LCD Panel Bezel, and LCD Front Bezel, are a few other examples.

Lenovo/IBM uses LCD Front Bezel.

Lenovo doesn't show an HMM for the IdeaPad's, other than for the S9e series, and S10e series, (Notebook), plus the A1-07 series. (Tablet)
(Hardware Maintenance Manual)

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/SupportSearchResults.page?searchText=ideapad+hmm

(An HMM is a Service Manual)

I also see there are no guides posted by users.

Therefore we'll have to 'wing it', using my years of experience with repairing laptops, and you as the tech.

1) Do you see any screw covers on the LCD Front Bezel?

May not be the usual synthetic rubber covers. May be plastic, and the same plastic, and color as the LCD Front Bezel.

Example,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-broken-lcd-screen-lenovo-x60s-laptop/

Scroll down to the photos in Steps 1 and 2.

Also note the 'seals' on the side of the Display Assembly, shown in Step 2 photo.

We'll start with this.

2) Haven't worked on a Y510, and perusing the internet; it seems no one has found a solution, for removing the LCD Front Bezel off of an IdeaPad Y510.

{ ALL power removed before beginning. Remove the AC adapter
(Charger), and Battery }

3)
A) There is no sticky double-sided tape holding it on.

B) Can't simply 'pop' it off, as with other Display Bezels, that do not use Philips head screws to hold it on.

[ For all Display Bezels, (Other than this baby, perhaps), there are locking tabs on the outside edges of the Display Bezel.

These match up to snap locks, on the inside edge of the Display Cover. (Top cover of laptop)
When the Display Bezel is removed, the locks snap loose ]

C) I suggest remove the screws which hold the Display Assembly to the laptop, and see if at the bottom of the Display Assembly, there are screw covers, or just screws, to remove.

If there are, and no other screw covers/screws to remove, the LCD Front Bezel should pop off.

This is what I mean by pop off,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-screen-on-lenovo-g560-laptop/

Step 2 and 3.

{ The laptop is made by Wistron. (Philippines) One of the three major laptop manufacturers, that makes laptops for ALL laptop brand manufacturers.
Such as Acer, Compaq, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Asus, you name it }

Asus laptop manuel

This is also in respect to your previous problem stated;

http://www.fixya.com/support/t12161144-screen_cover_off

It is also in regards to an Asus N50Vn series of Netbook PC.

A) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

If memory serves;

B) There are 6 synthetic rubber screw covers.
4 across the top, 2 on the bottom in the corners.

I use a computer pick, and gently pry them off. (Lift up on one side) They have a type of rubber cement on them, and if careful, can be reused.
Place them on a clean surface.
(Yes. They like to stick to the tool, and your fingers)

Underneath the 6 screw covers are 6 Philips head screws.
Remove them.

(Note*
Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
Do Not mix them up)

The thin plastic frame in front of the LCD screen is the LCD Bezel.
Resembles a picture frame.
Remove it.

The outside edges of the Bezel have plastic tabs. These mate with plastic latches in the inside edges, of the Display Cover.

This video will help with the Display Bezel removal,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7vSFvHphxM

Primer:
An LCD screen does not produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight (Present technology) can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
From what I gather the Asus N50VN series uses LED's.

I don't have the exact model number to see if a screen Inverter is offered, or it is included in the purchase of the replacement LCD screen.

(To me, would indicate the screen Inverter is an integral part of the LCD screen assembly, for certain N50VN models )

I want to replace the LCD screen myself but I can't find any video that shows me how. All of them show laptops that screws on the front of the bezzle and mine doesn't. How do I get the bezzle off?

Here's how to remove a screen for a laptop with a front bezzle instead of just front screws:
1. Power down your laptop. Disconnect the power cable and any peripheral devices from the laptop. Close the LCD screen, flip the laptop over and remove the battery from the bottom casing of the laptop.

  • 2.Flip the laptop over, and then open the LCD screen all the way. Remove the rubber screw covers from the front LCD bezel. The screw covers will be located on the front of the panel, or along the side edges, depending on your laptop's make and model.
  • 3.Remove the retaining Phillips-head screws from the front LCD bezel. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap along the outside edge of the LCD panel. Start to pry off the front bezel. Work your way around the entire LCD panel until the front bezel is separated from the panel.
  • 4. Remove the the bezel from the LCD panel and set it aside.

I need to replace the glass display. i have disassembled and removed the screen. how do i remove the lcd from the plastic casing. i do not see any screws it is an hp pavilion dv1000.

There should be little tabs around the bezel of the display. Under those tabs are screws. Don't forget what screws go where for when you get ready to put it all back together.

How do I remove the invertor from a Qosmio F20?

The inverter is located behind the bezel at the bottom of the screen/lid and in between the hinges.
The bezel has screws that fixes it to the lid and these can be hidden by stick-on plastic covers. Use a thin sharp point to lift these plastic covers off to reveal the screws. Remove these screws.
The bezel has small plastic catches that clips it to the lid and may also be fixed to the LCD screen with double sided tape. Use a thin blade and insert it between the LCD screen and the bezel and gently ease the bezel off. Start at the bottom of the screen and gradually work along the edge and continue around each side to free the bezel.
Be CAREFUL not to scratch the LCD screen and DO NOT apply too much pressure to the face of the LCD screen because you can crack the glass surface and ruin the LCD screen.
Once the bezel is removed then you can get access to the inverter to remove it.

    Need to replace lcd screen

Sure you can, and it is pretty simple. First off, you want to remove the bezel that is between the F keys and the monitor hinges. There may be a little screw on the back side of each hinge cover, and also under the battery if the battery is below the hinges. Once you pry the bezel off, you can remove the little screws that are under the round covers on the glass side of the monitor. There should be 4 or 6 of them located on the monitor bezel. Once you remove these, you can separate the bezel on the glass side from the back of the monitor. There may be 2 or 4 screws that hold the LCD to the hinges that will have to be removed. Now you will be ready to unplug the monitor from both the motherboard and the inverter. Replace the new LCD in the reverse order.

New LCD's can be purchased from Ebay at a reasonable cost.
