Keyboard error My laptop keyboard is being funny. When I type "i", "iu" comes up. And the bracket appears with the letter "y" etc. Is this a virus or a new keyboard would solve the problem,. It is not a language bar p[roblem since it's already set to UK english. And I've cleaned my keyboard too.

New keyboard, or remove this one, and blow it out with compressed air. sounds like there's some stuff under some of the keys.

I have a Dell D510, when I login in I have problems with the keyboard, I type one letter and the screen displays another , always seems to be b and n.s also the screen flips upside down and this then...

Just out of curiosity, go to Run and type OSK. This will bring up the on screen keyboard, try typing and see if that brings up the "wrong" characters. This would eliminate the keyboard or prove the keyboard is having issues. You can also attach a USB keyboard and double check with that.

If it happens again, disconnect from the internet (make sure no connection is active) and try again, if it fails to reproduce the problem, you may have a virus

If it is a virus, chances are it is allowing someone to remotely access your computer and producing these errors (probably unlikely but..)

Please try the above and then get an online virus scan to eliminate this possibility

Typing errors when using keyboard. letters missing when typing

these are the basic reasons for this problem

  • if you are using the Wireless Keyboard, then try to change the Batteries. Many times when the Batteries get weak this type of keyboard issues while typing occurs. So try to insert new batteries and check whether the problem is recurring. If it is coming again then it is the Hardware fault.

  • This can also happen because of the Virus. There are some virus or spyware that are the causes of this issue. So I would like to suggest you to scan your system using the updated Anti Virus. Once the Virus gets removed that are causing this issue than problem will get fixed up. Don't forget that your Anti Virus should me latest with proper updates. Simple way to check that your Keyboard is working properly, by connecting to some other system. If the same problem is coming that means there is an Keyboard issue and you will have to change the keyboard. And if your keyboard is working properly on another system that means there is fault in your system. Then try to scan your machine with the Anti Virus. Doing this will exactly know you what was the issue and you can troubleshoot that.

  • if PS2 port was having some issue, that was lead to missed and repeated letters on the keyboard. Hope that you are not having any PS2 issues because then you will have to fix your motherboard.
first you had to identify the cause in your pc by connecting it to other systems and then proceed to fix the cause

Hi. Whenever I type the letter 'i', I get the number 5

Is this a laptop or desktop. Either way, try a different keyboard. That will tell you if it is hardware or software. If it happens on another keyboard, resubmit your help request with that info.

Hp pavilion dv1000 laptop pc keyboard not working properly.

Does this computer KB work alright in SAFE mode? If it does then drivers and/or viruses are the problem. If it doesn't work in SAFE mode then it could be drivers and or keyboard. Now try booting into BIOS. At the date prompt you usually can type any keyboard letter. If the keyboard works here, then you definately have driver/virus issues. If not replace the keyboard.
