Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

I have a Bose LifeStyle series 5 w/cd music center that was manufactured in 1995. It has a Bose Acoustimass 9 subwoofer connected to it, however there are 5 cube speakers attached to the woofer. All of this was installed before I bought this house. The cube speakers are buried in the wall and have RCA connectors at the end of each one. They all plug in to the subwoofer. The subwoofer has two RCA plugs, one white and one red, as well as a speaker looking plug at the end. Those three wires plug in to the Bose Lifestyle 5 receiver. I desperately want to buy a new receiver however all of the receivers I have looked at and researched all have the cube speakers connecting directly to the receiver. There is no option to connect the subwoofer to it and have it work that way. They also do not have rca input. My Bose Lifestyle doesn't work most of the time. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do without spending a lot of money. Are there any receivers out there that would work with the Acoustimass?

Why can't you help me? They're just going to recommend that I buy another bose receiver and I don't want to.

I've been on the Bose website. They will just want me to buy a Bose receiver and I would like another opinion. It really doesn't seem like too difficult of a question. The expert previously justaskjoe had a reply back to me in 5 minutes. He obviously didn't want to do any research for me. I'll cancel my membership if I'm just going to be directed to websites.

Bose engineers their products to work with Bose products only!!!!!
You could connect the cube speakers to a surround sound receiver, but without the Bose processing they will sound bad real bad! Bose does this for a reason.(so you have to buy their products)
You will have to make the call, but, I recommend get rid of the Bose, and invest a little money in new technology(not Bose) and you will be pleasantly suprised at the sound you can buy for alot less money than the Bose, and will outplay the Bose if you really listen closely!
Plan to spend $500 to $1200 and you will be glad you did!
Good luck !

I have a Lifestyle 35 and want to replace head unit with a 5.1 receiver. The Bose subwoofer model LSPS uses a network type cable connector on the sub side and a male din plug on the head unit side of...

The entire 5.1 amplification system, in the Bose Lifestyle 35, is actually part of the Bose Acoustimass (subwoofer) module. The RJ-45 (network type) connector passes a low-voltage signal from the console to the Acoustimass module. If you were to hack the connection, and plug the speaker outputs of a 5.1 receiver to the RJ-45 socket on the Acoustimass module, you would blow the amplifier.

If you are really itching to replace the Bose Lifestyle 35 console with a regular 5.1 receiver, I strongly suggest you sell your Bose system, and purchase a Bose speaker system, such as the Acoustimass 10 Home Theater Speaker System, which is made for use with a standard 5.1 surround sound receiver.

Yes. But you need your Model 5 music center connected. Just like any receiver. -Without the main LS head unit, this will not be able to turn on.

Yes, there should be no issues using your Bose speakers with your Sony receiver. Sony has a "hookup guide" to help here -
