When ever I transfer or even attempt to transfer from my computer to my 1TB My Book (Ethernet), it looks like it's going to work and after minutes have passed by it says I do not have permission to do this operation. I can't believe this! Wester Digital has truly made me dissapointed. If any one has a solution please let me know. I activated the hidden administrator, de-activated the UAC, uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Someone please help.

Here is a tedious solution that works. Use MioNet and move all the files you want to keep to another drive or another computer, then delete everything from the MyBookWorld. Remove MioNet from all computers. Next access the drive's built in Shared Storage Manager with a web browser. Check the pdf manual on the install disk to find out how. Create a new shared folder and then move everything you want on the drive into the new folder WITHOUT using MioNet. Map the shared folder as a network drive for easy access. Never, ever, EVER use MioNet again and all should be good. The drive works, the MioNet software does not.

After I have connected all computers and WD, I opened the IE then open the websettings for my router, I locate the ip address for my WD then open another IE paste it to open my WD software settings. I add user and create security settings, then I add folders to use with different users with different right. I am good. Its working fine!! let me know if anyone needs more elaborations

I am having the smae issue. Seems the Mio software is the "super user" if you want to use as just a simple network drive you need to delete all files via Mio net software. Then create new folders with the web interface by going to in explorer and then save the files using only windows. Seems once you use mionet and save files or create folders with that software installed thats how it always needs to work! Hope that helps!

How can i unlock my passport without formatting it

Hello,

This is by design. Western Digital and other manufacturers who offer encryption(locking) do this to prevent others from accessing your data without your permission.

If you wish to format the drive, you will have to unlock it, copy the files off to another drive or computer then reformat and copy the files back.

Unfortunately they do not have an option to unlock permanently without formatting.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Hi. I have WD Passport Esential 500 Gb. When I plug the device, i can see it in My Computer like drive G:. There I see my folders and subfolders, also the files, but when i try to open some of them i have...

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the necessary NTFS file system permissions:
    1. In Windows NT Explorer, right-click the file, and then click Properties.
    2. On the Security tab, click Permissions.
    3. In the Type Of Access box, click Change.
  2. If your permissions are correct but you still cannot gain access to the file, use Systems Internals' Handle utility to troubleshoot the issue with this file. The Handles utility lists information about open handles and files. To obtain this utility, download it from the following Systems Internals Web site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896655.aspx

I can see my files in a directory but not able to copy, delete or move or even play. Says you don't have permission to do the task.

Log on in the system administrator account. This should allow you access to all functions. Hope this helps.

Cannot see WD 120 GB in my Computer

Sounds like the USB interface is working, but the physical drive is not. Remove the drive from it's external case, and try a different hard drive. If that works, your drive is the problem. If it still doesn't work, the USB to IDE interface is the issue.

Try mounting the original IDE drive internally, and see if you can read it there. If not, you'll need to send it to a data recovery center.
