Question about HP DVD DRIVE DVD Drive
May be dirt on the laser lens and the drive can't detect the pressance of a disk. It is possible to clean it with a cotton bud by gently wiping it accross the lens but it means removing the drive and taking the top of to access the lens.

It is recommended to uninstall and re-install DVD Drive from Device Manager. If your system fails to detect the optical drive, then check for the driver in the Device Manager list. If the required driver is not listed, uninstall and re-install the optical disk driver to the Device Manager. A corrupt DVD drive may also require reinstallation of the driver. If it is an old and well-used Drive, the problem of strange sounds may be due to a burnt out DVD read head. If the DVD Drive is able to read only CDs but not DVDs then this means that the hardware is fine, but the problem is with the registry. So, check the registry error and fix it.
