Question about Mitsubishi WS-55511 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

WS-55511. Remote does not work at all. Power, Volume, Channel buttons on front panel work some. You can turn volume up or down, but when button is released, tv turns itself off, then right back on, and volume is where it started. Can change channel up/down, but it when button is released, tv turns itself off, then right back on, but stays on the last channel. Try to switch between devices, but it won't stay, just switches itself back to tv when button is released. Self diagnostic check is 1 blink, then 2 blinks, or "No Error". Unplugging power for several minutes and trying again doesn't help.

    Unplugging the front keyboard worked.

Is it likely one micro switch, or possibly more that are bad? I assume they can be checked with a voltmeter. Can they be replaced by removing and resoldering the a new one? Do you have a part number? Is the screen difficult to remove?

We can live with it the way it is, but I'd like to fix it if possible. My father in law is an electrician who loves working with electronics and has the tools to do it. Do we need a schematic, or can you tell me what the switches look like?

    Thanks

I have a possible answer for your problem and a relatively easy way to prove if it is the problem or not.

These sets sometimes develop problems with the front keyboard---behind each button is a tiny micro switch---sometimes they fail.

The simple way to find out if this is your problem is to remove the front speaker grill below the screen---it should pull out and is secured with pegs made of plastic.

Behind it in the middle you will find an inspection plate with 4 or 6 screws----remove the plate.

At this point notice the group of wires coming down from the front keyboard assembly---follow them to the right about 8 inches at the top edge of the opening and you should find two inline plugs---unplug both---this removes the entire front keyboard from the circuit.

Now turn the set on with the remote and see if it works normally.

The remote receiver is behind the front screen---if the set now works you have two choices---operate the set only with the remote and leave the plugs undone or someone is going to have to remove the entire screen with its frame to get at the keyboard to locate and replace whichever micro switch is bad---they are all on a small circuit board mounted inside the bottom front of the screen frame.

Try what I have suggested and let me know what happens.

To check the buttons is fairly easy---with the front grill removed you will (also have the keyboard unplugged and the wires free) note 4 or 5 black screws just beneath the screen---with them removed you carefully lift UP on the entire screen unit and slide it up about 4 inches and then pull straight out--you will see it has hooks inside on either side.

The circuit board with the buttons is held into the frame with several small brass colored screws.

With it removed and a volt/ohm meter set to ohms (to measure resistance) on as high a level of at least 20k ohms you check each of the two pin micro switches---there should be NO reading across them.

It is very possible only ONE is bad--two choices--unsolder the two pins on the bad one and remove it and then check the others to make sure no others are bad. If it is the Menu or one other than the power you can just remove it and put the set back together--up to you.

They do sell the entire keyboard for some models---it may or may not be available.

FYI---I worked at a shop where I saw this and they tossed a lot of these sets out with fatal problems--I HAVE OVER 60 good micro switches for these sets....if you need a few and cannot buy them we can find a way for me to put a few in the mail for you--no charge.

See attached photos to get an idea of how small the switches are.

If you are satisfied with my help at any point just vote 4 thumbs up and the question will close but you will still be able to come back and ask if you need more help.

My mitsubishi ws55511 remote does not work and

The front buttons need to be replaced. I would replace them all due to no being able to tell which ones are the bad ones. It should fix the problem.
The part # of these Tactile switches is 432P089010. Mitsubishi's parts department phone is 800-553-7278.
The two front grill covers pull off and the front plastic housing unscrews from the front.
Hope this helps,

Volume increases to 30 can't turn down

I don't have a solution but if you take off the speaker grille on the front of the set and see two ribbonish cables, unplug the smaller one. The volume will not increase anymore but you cannot use the controls on the front of the tv and the power light will not show green anymore. You can however use the remote to do everything on the set that you would normally do. Hope this helps until I find a real solution.

Remote won't work with TV nor do console button even after reset

Found my problem.

Looks like the core of the problem is this:

microswitches on the frontcontrol board leaking.replace it.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t2422987-same_problem What worked for me was this: Supposedly, the front panel is known to have leaky switches. power,volume,menu,etc.. They asked me to take my finger and rub left to right back and forth hitting all the buttons, do this about 20 times.. then poke the reset button in and out a few times.. Wait about 60 to 90 seconds and see if your green light quits flashing.. If so, try powering on with your remote.

WS-55511 55in volume turns up by itself & can't switch devices

The remote is not the problem. The switch for volume up on the control panel has become leaky. Very common problem for this generation Mitsubishi. If you don't mind not having the control panel working you can disconnect it and the set will work just fine with the remote. To disconnect the control panel pull the speaker grill, it just snaps off, and remove the front access panel. Once that is done you'll see a cable going to the switches just disconnect it.

Tv turns on manually, but auto flips through channels and you can't use remote

Found this in another forum (www.hometheaterspot.com) and it fixed my remote problem:

"...it's possible that one of the front panel buttons is "stuck" or shorted, and this could cause the TV to ignore commands from the front panel or remote. But this should also cause the Power command to be ignored, too. You might try pulling off the front panel and disconnecting the front panel buttons and then see if the remote works."

Remotes do not work and front panel will not allow me to select input or change volume

I figured it out. It is, in fact, the front panel board. Disconnecting it sloves all issues. A contact in one of the tact switches must be stuck or giving an abnormal resistance value to the system. Once disconnected, the remote works correctly. I'd rather replace the entire board than try fixing/replacing a tact button only to have another fail in the future. I've heard this has also been an issue with the power button.
