Because your camera has a SD (or MMC) card, you can take off the memory card and put it in a cardreader. Take care when you connect the card reader to a computer (PC, laptop, notebook or MAC) the computer could answer the card is dammaged and should be formatted. DON'T format the card. If you cant read the files with your browser, try to get a recovery program. There are lots of recovery programes around. Ontrack EasyRecovery Pro and Sandisk Rescue Pro are some examples. (they are not for free) But perhaps you can find a freeware version or a trial version. Success
ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.
Please have the memory card checked on a PC. If the card opens and shows up then format the card after you have copied the files to a marked folder. now reinsert the card to the camera. If it shows error test with another card to confirm the fault in main board/ interface or card contacts within the camera.
The reasons why do you get a message "CARD ERROR" are:

There are three reason why do you get a "card error" when trying to format your card.
* a new memory card or unformatted camera.
* a memory card that has a file, this camera can't recognise or one has been take from another camera.
* always format the memory card using the camera. If you insert a memory card that has been formatted using other cameras, memory card reader, or PC's you will get this error message (card error)

I just want to verify the model number of your camera is Vivicam3632 because I'm not be able to see that model for Vivitar digital camera, however there where three reasons why do you receive an error message "card error".
First reason is possible that memory card is not yet formatted for use in the camera, but since, you said that you already formatted the memory card, lets move to the second reason.
Second reason is memory card requires cleaning. You can clean it using soft and dry cloth and after you cleane it, try to format the memory card again. you can also used a clean pencil eraser in cleaning the memory card but please be careful in doing this. You just have to rub it slightly to removed the dirt.
If you still have the same error after doing those two steps, You need to replace the memory car.
"Card error" is also possible of camera malfunction. In this case you have to contact your service center.

I have seen several question with the same issues on your camera. There where 3 possible reasons why do you received an error "clean or format card". First reason is your card was not formatted for the camera used. You need to format it first for you to be able to used the memory card. Second reason is memory card slot or the memory card itself requires cleaning. Yu can used soft and dry cloth to cleaned it, sometimes pencil eraser or any eraser can be used to clean the memory card, but you have to be careful in using it on your memory card. After you clean it, you also need to format the memory card. Third possible reason is memory card might need to replace.
Notes: All existing data, including protected pictures, are erased when internalmemory or card is formatted. Make sure that you save or transfer important data to a computer before formatting the memory or card.
