My Magnavox TV cycles through channels and won't turn off

My Magnavox 19MD357B 19inch LCD HDTV with built in DVD player continuously cycles through all the channels and input modes and I cannot turn the tv off using the remote. If the TV is operating properly (which it usually isn't), I can turn it off manually using the power button on the front of the TV. Otherwise, I have to unplug it. When it is cycling through channels I can press the power button on the television and as long as I have my finger there, the television operates properly. Any suggestions?

It sounds as though the TVs in a demo mode. Has someone recently been over and was playing with the remote. If so go into the menu of the tV set and look for set up and demo mode. Turn off the demo mode. if this doesent help call i-866-427-3946 and talk to the customer service deptartment. Good Luck

SOURCE: SWITCHING FROM TV MODE TO VIDEO MODE

Hi, If the AV button is not in your remote, then perhaps it is part of the Ch up/down buttons - meaning right after your last programmed Channel would be AV before the first program Channel. Although I have yet to come across such a case, I have worked on units/remotes that have this feature of the AV included in the channel memory. Good luck and kind regards.

SOURCE: video input

If there is no input button on the tv itself to change the input then you will most likly need a remote. so you can get a universal remote and follow the instructions to adapt it to your set then you can use it to change the input. (you can get a universasl remote for like 10$) hope it helped

SOURCE: Continuous Channel Searching & Power Button Issues

What source are you using? If cable, you should only be able to pickup channel 3 or 4 if you're using the box. If there is no antenna, that would be the only other answer if the set checks out...accordianman

HOW DO I REMOVE THE SUBTITLES FROM MY SONY BRAVIA

Hi,
The Subtitle option is available only with the connected devices like DVD Player, Blu-ray Disc Player etc. The option avaialble in the TV is known as Closed Caption. The Closed caption option can be turned off by selecting the options below:
Press Menu button on the TV Remote. Select, Setup settings. Then select Caption Vision option to OFF. This option is for turning off the Closed Caption option in the TV to OFF. For disabling the Subtitle option in the connected devices like DVD Player and Blu-ray Disc Player, press the SUBTITLE button on the supplied Remote continuously to select OFF.
In few of the TV broadcasting channels the Subtitles cannot be turned OFF as this is being broadcasted with the channels.
Good Luck! KenSolutions

Tv went off and won' come back on.

Most likely you will have to replace the power supply. It is a very common problem especially in newer electronics. You can test it with voltmeter or multi-tester. They tend to get worn capacitor inside the power supply due to cheaper parts

T.V. shuts off when I try to play a DVD in the built-in player

Try putting in a VCR tape let it load and hit stop. If the set stays on it's the VCR deck causing the problem. It will be either be bad sensors or LED or possibly the mode switch. Let me know if this helps.

AV channel on magnavox tv

This worked for my 20" Philips Magnavox 20MT4405/17 TV, it might work for you as well. DISCLAIMER: This is just a solution that I pieced together information from various internet sources, as I could not find a free copy of the service manual to verify this. Furthermore, I am not a technician of any sort.

Enter your TV's service menu by pressing this sequence of buttons on your remote while the TV is on:
062596 Menu

Use the arrows on your remote to scroll down to "Options", push the right arrow to enter options.

Change the 7 options parameters in order to (write down the original values in case this does not solve):
OP1: 065
OP2: 215
OP3: 065
OP4: 162
OP5: 204
OP6: 201
OP7: 000

You need to enter all 3 digits for every number, even if there are zeroes. You use the numbers on the remote to do this.

Turn the TV off with the built in power button.

Unplug the TV for 10 seconds.

Plug the TV back in, turn it back on.

If this does not solve your problem, reset the values of the options in the service menu to the values you wrote down earlier because you have a different problem than what this fix works for.
