are you sure you have dsl (adsl) internet since these use adsl modem / router combos but not a cable modem...are you sure you have dsl (adsl) internet since these use adsl modem / router combos but not a cable modem...

Well, if you know how to setup the ip addresses manually both on your modem / router and on the ps3 i recommend you do that... but bear in mind that your dhcp server (on your modem / router) should prohibit automatic assignment of that same ip address with your ps3... for that you have to specify a range of automatically assignable ip addresses apart from your ps3...
if you have the dmz (demilitarized zone) option on your modem / router, set it up for the ip address of your ps3, which you've setup manually...
example:
router ip: 192.168.2.1
ps3 ip: 192.168.2.10
ip address pool: 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.250 (this shpould be manually setup not to interfere with the fixed ip address of the ps3)
dmz host: 192.168.2.10 (ip address of the ps3, which enables "opens" all of the ports for this ip address)
apart from that if you use any proxy servers to connect to the net, you have to specify these in ps3 settings as well...
there are a lot of threads on various forums on how to tweak your network connection to optimize for ps3...

IP ADDRESS 192.168.1.254 is the default gateway of an AT&T modem router (RESIDENTIAL GATEWAY) (2WIRE). for this ip address should be able to view the main screen of your 2wire modem and if not your computer is connected to a different network.
1) try connecting the computer to the 2wire RG using a ETHERNET cable (if your connected via wireless) 2) make sure that the DSL light is solid and not blinking. 3) if your computer already connected by a ETHERNET cable, try accessing the same ip address if your able to view the main screen of your 2wire modem it means that your computer will be able to connect to the internet. 4) try this also: this for internet explorer: click tools - connections - LAN settings ( if there's a tick mark on PROXY SERVER remove it ) if you do have tick mark on PROXY SERVER then your computer have a virus, because virus can put a tick on PROXY SERVER without you noticing it. after removing the tick you will be able to connect to the internet again.
Before connecting the ethernet cable to the back of your Playstaion3 hold the modem reset button for 15 seconds, when 15 secs are up connect the ethernet cable to your ps3 system, wait until tour Comcast High Speed Internet goes online again (all the lights are showing fine) then try setting up your Playstation connection settings again, it might work since now you have reseted your modem and the modem will send information to new device, I hope this information works for you, :)
First test the Internet connection by connecting a LAN cable from your DSL or cable modem to your computer and see if you can get into the Internet.
If you can't access the Internet then phone your ISP and get them to test your connection to your modem.
If the Internet connection is OK then click on this WEB site and follow the instruction to configure the PS3 :- wii.php">http://fixhomenetwork.com/xbox-play-station-wii.php
You need to connect a router to the cable modem. The router then gets an IP address from Comcast and provides a gateway between the computers connected to the router.
The modem expects to communicate with a single Ethernet device, and provides an IP address to the first device that provides a piece of data called a MAC address. By placing a router in-between, the router gets the IP address that lets you communicate on the Internet. It provides local IP addresses to the equipment connected to the local Ethernet and "routes" those to the Internet. You can either hook your two devices into the router if it has enough ports, or hook you switch to the router and hook your PC and PS3 into the switch.
??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.
Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.
For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
When you connect your ps3 with a ethernet cord you need to restart your ps3 when its connected. If its wireless you may need to check your router settings.
I once had the same problem. What i did is that i booted the modem and the Ps3 (turned both off) and then turned them on. Then i went to the internet settings on the Ps3 and tried the internet connection check and it worked! I hope you have some help of this.
I have comcast to what i did, because i had the same problem as you was I reboot my modem if you have a modem you can reboot it in the back but first unplug everything from the back all the cords then reboot it last. wait five minutes plug everthing back into plugs and you should get your connections back you would probably have to do this everything you connect to ps3 online hola back if it was helpful email [email protected]
The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto settings
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.
