I also can't get it to work in 5+1 and I am shure that the source has Dolby 5+1audio signal
Only thing how I get it to work is when I put it to PURE DIRECT, then it decodes dolby correctly but I cant get picture out from it.
I can't belive that it was ment to work this way???

Hi Linda,

It is showing two because the source of the sound that you are listening is probably stereo only thus only two sound comes out. You could try to change the mode to 5 channel stereo or prologic or dts-6channel mode in the surround mode to hear your sound in all 5 speakers. best thing to do is watch a dvd which would use all 5.

Regarding a/b yes if your receiver supports it which i think it does there should be place for it in the back of the receiver.

good luck

smeags.

I have a yamaha Rx-v361 i get sound when in DVD mode, SAT mode but no sound in TUNER or AUX (MP3 player) modes, i checked all the wiring in the back of the unit and everything is connected. please advise

Tuner is internal so there's no way wrong 'wiring' could be the problem there.

Does the tuner actually 'tune' a station?

If you're using V-Aux on the front panel for your MP3 player, make sure you haven't assigned V-Aux to a digital function. Page 48.

Yamaha RX-V361 cuts off: check SP cable

Disconnect the speakers and turn on. If your receiver is ok, it will not go into protection "check spkrs" Then connect speakers, one by one, each time make sure the receiver is off, then turn it on. When you find the speaker that's causing the problem it will go into protection. At this time, disconnect the speaker at the speaker, then turn on again, if it still goes into protection, you have a speaker wire problem. If it stays on, you have a problem with the speaker. If you have a multimeter and know how to read it, check the impedance and the resistance. Check the internal workings of the speaker, bad surround from dryrot or smoked crossovers, etc. look for the obvious first. Hope this helps

Yamaha RX-V361 DVD cuts off w/ check SP cable message

This message means that speakers are not connected properly. What is their impedance? What is the impedance set on the receiver via Advanced Setup menu (see manual)? Check if it is not short-circuited.
Try the receiver without speakers connected. If the message goes away, receiver is OK and problem is in the connection to the speakers.
