Kenmore Dishwasher Leaving Greasy Film

Recently, our ~2yr. old Kenmore 665 Dishwasher began doing a poor job of cleaning the upper rack load. The lower seemed to be okay. I pulled out the entire interior water delivery assembly and removed a tremendous amount of scale from all the pieces. I also removed about a 1/8" build-up from the element. Even with the heated dry off, the steam poured out of the unit at the end of the cycle...but the top rack is still shaky and we noticed much of the silverware (lower rack) hadn't even been touched. I'm beginning to suspect some kind of timer and/or premature soap latch issue. We've often had some hard water deposit issues, but until recently, things always got clean. Any ideas?

First check the detergent is being released.
Then check the filter is clear and clean.
Next check each of the spray jet spinning arms are free to spin and clear of blockages (there are holes in these and food particles, particularly rice, may block the holes.
Finally set it to wash on its hottest setting.
You may wish to place a half a lemon in the unit to freshen it up too.

After you do the two previous responses, and if they fail to solve the problem, I would check the connections on the feed tubes. It almost sounds like the top arms are not getting enough water. There could be one that is not secure and is bleeding water out the back, or maybe a small crack or something like that. If any of them seem brittle or loose, replace them.

Before you do anything else I would suggest obtaining a couple bottles of "Dishwasher Magic" at your local hardware store or supermarket cleaning products aisle. This will clean the scale and crud from the interior so that it looks like new again, and since the water recycles through the pump and spray jets it also helps clean them too. Start with running the first bottle through on a heavy duty cycle. Then run the second bottle the same way. You should see that the interior looks remarkably cleaner afterwards, but if you don't then see much improvement in the way your dishwasher cleans, it is likely that either the pump is not functioning very well or the spray jets are clogged. If you can remove the spray jet rotors, and have a tray they will fit into, try soaking them in either a 50/50 solution of water and distilled white vinegar, or some CLR (calcium-lime-rust remover) following the product instructions.

Check to make sure dishes don't block the detergent door. I have seen where lids can block it from opening. If you have the knob type, open the door and rotate the knob to see if the detergent door opens.

SOURCE: dishes not clean

There may be a couple of solutions to your problem. First, if you are not rinsing the dishes thoroughly before loading, your sump area in the bottom of the machine will get clogged, thus preventing enough velocity to reach top rack. Second, and most likely, your water inlet valve (or solenoid valve) is restricting. You have a timed fill mode through the timer and if the valve is not opening fully, you do not get the proper rate of flow into the machine. Replace the valve and your problem will most likely be solved.

Hello,

If your model has a JETDRY rinse agent dispenser be sure to use it..if it does not have that dispenser and just only the detergent dispenser use the JETDRY in the dry version that is in a little basket and hangs on the upper rack.

Our Kenmore 665 was leaving white flecks on dishes and glasses

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Dishes not getting clean

brittgee, there has been a number of service flashes on this model. One that has to do with the upper spray arm assy. Complaint is poor washability; gritty glasses, food redeposited on glasses, especially in the corners. They redesigned the upper spray arm to improve water spray to all corners of the upper rack. The new part number is 8269022. They also redesigned the third level spinner for more consistant rotation and better washability. This was also under a service flash. Part number.8193768. Other reasons for poor wash would be; low water temperature, rinse aid disp. not working, loading etc. Catriver...post back.
