Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I found an old Sansui 9090 receiver that I'm told is a great receiver. It looks like it's still new but it hasn't been used in several years. I have one speaker plugged into the input, and it is plugged into a plug that I know works. The fuse is perfect. When the power is pressed, the "protector" light flashes on, but fades away and the unit does not turn on. Is there some way to fix this or is the receiver now garbage? Thanks, Kyle

Speakers don't plug into inputs. Check your work.

Try powering it up with nothing attached, then proceed to attach things (like a speaker to the speaker terminals) and see what happens.

All the lights are not working found 2 blown fuses / replaced still not working the power lite flashes red then turns to green

When a fuse blow suspect an overload. In an amp this old it will certainly be one (or more) of the main output transistors that has shorted.

I have a 9090 receiver that powers on but no sound output. this happened before about 20 years ago and it was a simple fix but i dont remember what it was

Was the 'fix' a hardware repair or a switch position? You should at least remember that.

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through defect or idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

Try rick at stereomanuals.com
The shutdown would be from a voltage supply in the power amp seeing too heavy a load and "shutting down" so that the amp doesnt Fry
