External charger for battery?

Does anyone know of a charger that I can put my Zen's battery into to charge it? The player will work when the battery's charged, but it won't charge via the power port or mini USB port.

Had exactly the same problem with my Zen Xtra that I hadn't used for several months. I followed lkadlcek's solution but, instead of cutting up the Creative charger, used a mobile phone charger I don't need anymore. Stripped back the wires, stuck them to the terminals of the battery using electrical tape and charged it up for a couple of minutes. When I put the battery back in the Zen, everything worked fine!

I had the same problem just today, when I turned my Zen on after like 6 months- zen working fine from the charger but battery would not show any charging[no battery icon].What I did is cut the output cord from charger and strip the two wires just a little bit and hold the bare ends straight on the battery contacts - and + [plus is the one with white stripes] for like 30 seconds and than put the battery back to the Zen,turn on the zen [without the charger pluged in] and it worked, showing slightly charged battery,so I pluged the charger back and it started charging the battery normal like before.Hope this helps,Lukas

I did not want to cut the Zen charger but had a spare phone charger and cut the tip off that. I was concerned when I found I had one white and one black wire. I guessed the white was positive and held them against the battery for over a minute and it worked, phew!

I tried lkadlcek solution and it worked! It means the battery is so drained it cannot trigger the charging circuit to work, and needs just a touch of power to get going. However, you do not need to cut any wires.

The body of the Xtra's power jack is negative, and the inner connector is positive. Just connect a paper clip to the body of the adapter, and pull apart another clip and insert its sharp head into the inner connector. Be careful not to touch these two poles, + and - together or it could damage the adapter! Now, touch these paper clips to the corresponding + and - terminal of the battery for 10 seconds. That's it!

There is no third-party charger, which is a major downside. The only way to charge a battery is in the Zen itself. If you buy a spare, you have to charge it in the Zen and then carry it along...

I bought an iGo charger and tip so that it can have power in the car or on a long airplane trip. That helps a lot.

My creative Zen, 8GB MP3 player will not switch on. The computer will not detect it, but detected other external drives. I know the Zen's battery was fully charged before it faulted, but it will not even...

I think it's dead, You might want to do a hard reset on it or wait for the battery to drain. I had a color version of this and it was forever freezing. If removing and then reconnecting the battery does not help then it might have worse issues. If all else fails I can take a shot at repairing it, my e-mail is Zenodilodon@gmail.com

Mine isn't a ZEN V Plus but it is a ZEN mp3

it could be the battery that is dead, however it is more likely that the chargers your are trying do not match the voltage needs necessary to charge it. just because a charger fits does not mean that it will actually charge it. LI-ion batteries are VERY picky and some can explode (literally EXPLODE as in bang, where did my hand go) if the wrong voltage is applied. here's the thing, most devices have a fail-safe built into them so that you cannot mess up the battery unfortunately the first charger you tried could have fried this making it unchargeable the reason the other charger works is because when a proper voltage is applied the power is split between running the device and charging the battery (this is cut off if too much power is applied) the actual battery takes very little power to charge you should look up the player via google and take not of the voltage and amperage needed to charge it these are important, there is a good chance it will still work. just buy the proper cable to hook it up to the PC this should charge it however that's not a guarantee the olympus mr100 for instance, would not charge via PC only with the dock and wall adapter. good luck and i hope this helps!

P.S. there is still the possibility that the bat. is fried and you may need a new one.

Creative Zen MP3 won't charge with mains adaptor

Don't worry that doesn't mean that your mp3 player is faulty, if there is any fault it is from the charger but since the usb charges it well, just continue to use it. It doesn't mean the player is faulty, IT HAPPENS.

Creative Zen Vision M won't charge it's battery.

check your usb cable...i had the same problem...

I have a usb cable that came with it ( or some other mp3 player i bought), but it is way too short, so i bought a cheap ($1) and longer usb cable. The computer recognizes the mp3 when connected, but it wont charge with the long and cheap cable.

Maybe you also have a long (or short) cheap usb cable...or maybe your usb cable is plain broke...

Zen wont work on battery

The battery is bad or the charging circuit is flaking out. Try plugging it in and from the wall side of the charger, unplug and plug it in several times. Sometimes on the Zen players that will shock it back into charging. I have seen that same charging issue on several models of Creative players.

Cheers

It's probably too late for your nees but for future users, push a pin into the rest hole on the bottom of the player while AT THE SAME TIME holding down the play and power buttons. Yes, I know you need three hands to do this. That should bring up a recovery screen Try "Clean-up" on that screen.

Zen not working

You might just have to completely reformat and reset the OS/Firmware your player. Note: THIS WILL REMOVE ALL SONGS/VIDEOS/PICTURES FROM THE DEVICE! To reformat: 1. Hold the power switch in the ON position 2. Insert a paper clip into the RESET hole. 3. Continue holding the power switch ON until the Creative logo appears. 4. Select Format All from the Recovery Mode menu. 5. Select Reboot To reset the OS/Firmware: 1. Go to http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ 2. Under Select Your Product select MP3 Players > ZEN > Zen Vision: M (either 30GB or 60GB model depending on what you have) 3. Select your operating system and Firmware from the File Type drop down box 4. Download the file from the next page to your Desktop 5. Agree to the stupid EULA and download the file 6. Connect the player to the computer 7. Once the player is recognized, run the .exe file 7. Follow the on-screen instructions If you are still having problems, or any of the above does not work as planned, let me know.
