WATER DRIPPING FROM THE FREEZER DOWN TO THE FRIDGE SECTION MEANS YOU HAVE A CLOGGED DRAIN, WHEN THE FRIDGE GOES INTO DEFROST CYCLE, IT MELTS THE ICE FROM THE COIL, THIS WATER HAS TO GO DOWN THE DRAIN TO THE TRAY LOCATED UNDER THE FRIDGE BY THE COMPRESSOR, BUT SINCE UR DRAINIS IS FROZEN, THE WATERS HAS TO FIND ITS WAY OUT SOMETIMES DRIPS TRU THE AIR VENT, AN RUNS DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FRIGDGE SIDE, AN WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR YOU WONT SEE IT, BUT U WILL NOTICE THE WATER ON THE FRONT LATER U JUST WONT KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM...!

IF THE FAN IS NOT RUNNING YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REMOVE THE PANEL ON THE FREEZER SIDE AN SEE WHAT IS GOING ON, A BAD DEFROST DRAIN CAN CAUSE ICE ACCUMULATIONS TO THE POINT WHERE THE ICE WOULD BE SO MUCH AN NOT ALLOW THE FAN BLADES TO SPIN, CAUSING THE FAN MOTOR TO BURN, AN OVERHEAT , BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE THE DRAIN, AN THE WATER YOU SEE IS THE WATERR THAT MELTS FROM THE DEFROST CYCLE

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Seems to me that might be a clogged defrost drain or maybe a dripping water valve. Doing that. I have the service manual with nice pictures in it that show clearly how to access the components.

Side by side leaking water from under freezer side

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Makes ice fine but the water drips down the back of the freezer running into the ice tray - help

The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.
The valve can leak because of sediment in the water preventing it from closing or low water pressure.

Water leaking from icemaker on outside

If this is your water dispenser leaking
Your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is probably leaking. disconnect the water line coming out of it and see if you have a slow drip. Try the dispenser to see if it's just drips after use.

Whirlpool Fridge makes a loud dripping sound all the time G56SHE

Erin,

The water you hear sounds like it's coming from the automatic defroster in the freezer compartment. It runs down a drain tube into the pan you describe under the fridge. The pan is heated and evaporates the water.

Just some possible explanations if you are hearing "lots" of water"

* You may be in a warmer, more humid climate
* The temperature and humidity in your dwelling is elevated
* The door gasket on the freezer may be leaking
* The freezer is too full
* The freezer door is not closing properly
* The freezer door is being left open for extended periods
* There is a problem with the defrost cycle

If you are hearing water running all the time, check the ice maker water line and fill valve (if you have an ice maker) - there could be a leak or other malfunction.
