Hi, The Vista operating system is being replaced by Windows 7 because of incompatibility issues and many other bugs. The best solution and what I tell most of my askers is to replace Vista with XP and wait for Windows 7 to become available. Vista will give you endless problems regardless of what others tell you. Best wishes, Graemevm

Go out to Lexmark web site and look for a vista update in their software download section. So this should solve your problem. Most of the cds which come with equipment do not contain vista software and drivers.
How many devices do you have connected to your USB ports. Many computers power supplies cannot handle the power drain of excessive devices (cell phone charger, digital camera, wireless keyboards and mouse, wifi adapter, and printers. Remove a few devices and see if the printer will work. If it does, get a cheap powered USB hub. And plug the other devices into it.
It may also be a software issue.
Vista has it's own drivers and will assign it's own to your
printer when you plug it in. This method will not work with many
external devices. Completely disconnect the printer. Then install the
lexmark driver. A window will pop up saying that the software being
loaded is not approved by windows. Click install anyway. The software
will instruct you when it is ok to connect the printer. You may have to
go into the printer and faxes (control panel) and delete the current
Windows Vista printer and scanner drivers are available for your product. The printer software is available by using the Automatic Software Update service built into Windows Vista. The scanner software is available for download through Epson’s website.

*NOTE: -Depending on your system the computer may ask for your Windows disk, if so insert your Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive and click OK. -As the driver is part of Windows Vista, there is no Status Monitor available for your printer. Some printers may have an INK LEVELS options included as part of the resident driver. Otherwise, the printer does have its own indicators. The LCD will display which cartridge is either low or out of ink. -If the ink levels do not appear, click GET INK LEVELS to refresh the driver.
