Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I am trying to remove the agitator from my washing machine - Moffat Model No.MW600L. Clothes getting tangled between agitator and the drum. I have removed the plastic cap on the top of the agitator. I see a round metal shaft with teeth circling on the inside - looks like Jaws Jr. - no nuts or bolts. There must be a special tool that fits into the teeth so you can unscrew the shaft, but no hardware store has any such thing. Any clues ?

Drum is moving back and forth during agitation.

Unless the clothes are not getting washed, ignore it. It is usual for agitation to go in both directions. It reduces tangling.

Hi my washing machine is tangling up all the washing around the agitator then going out of balance, stops spinning, lights start flashing and beeping? Please help me...

Make sure the agitator is down as far as it can go on the shaft. If it has worked itself partially off the shaft it can cause a gap that will cause your clothes to tangle around the agitator.

The whashing comes out with white powder like stuff. Can I clean the drum and if so how ? is it flint that gathers some where?

Hello Sir Tommis,

I understand that you are having a problem with your washing machine. When you wash clothes they come out with a white powder like substance on them. This white powder substance is the powder laundry soap that you are using.

This is generally caused by adding to much soap and clothes to the washing machine. The soap is not getting dissolved and the clothes do not have enough room to agitate in the machine. Try to put 3/4 of the amount of clothes in the washer with the same amount of soap and see if the clothes come out with the same powder like substance on them.

The clothes that currently have the soap on them will have to be hand washed with a scrub brush in oder to get the material off of them as running them though the washer will not remove the soaked in soap.

Getting grease or oil spots on clothes when washing. Machine is not making any odd noises. It has a stainless steel drum. Never had a problem with this machine. It's a commercial version for homeowners. ...

If you get grease-like marks on your clothes after a laundry cycle, and they wash out in the next load, don't despair. It's a sure bet they're caused by detergent and fabric softener that have congealed on the underside of the agitator or along the top edge of the washer basket.

To eliminate the problem, first clean any crud from the gap along the top of the washer basket. Then remove the agitator and clean the gunk off the underside. Since the agitator removal procedure varies by manufacturer, go toallplianceguru.com and search for your make and model. After youve cleaned the agitator, reinstall it and fill the tub with hot water. Next, dump in 8 oz. of washing machine cleaner (Washer Magic is one brand; buy fromamazon.com or applianceparts stores) and run it for a full cycle without any clothes. That should eliminate the problem. If not, repeat the procedure.

Hi just read your posting. Now does the washing tangle around the agitator? In your posting you mentioned the washing not distributing around the drum.Could you confirm that your machine is a top loader for me,because the word "drum and distribute" are terms for a front loader. If your machine is a top loader which I think it is then the problem could be your brake arm or spin coil is not operating. Please reply and let me know if the clothes are tangling around the agitator.Looking forward to your reply.

Clothes get caught under the agitator and tangled around the agitator and have to unravel the clothes from the agitator

Check the rubber gasket around the agitator is not worn. If it is get a replacement and insert it in snugy.

Moffat MW600L Washing Machine will not operate

The lid switch may be bad or the part that strikes it may be damaged. There should be a hole that is covered under the lid. You can use a pincle to push it down and see if the wash cycle starts. If it does the part on the lid that presses the switch may be damaged or missing (some were plastic). If it does not operate. You can unplug machine and remove the switch wires (under the top of the washer)and install a (test) jumper wire to connect both wires from the switch. Try to operate again. If it operates now you need a switch. I was unable to find your mod. in my manuals...
