Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have a Philips-Magnafox projection tV, it was manufactured in 2000. The model # is 9P5511C102 and the Chasi # is PTV836. Whenever I turned it on, it will come on nicely with the pictures on the full surface of the screen. But after about two to three minutes, the picture will shrink to the middle of the screen living about 2" of spaces from all four corners of the original screen. Could you please tell me if there is a kit I can buy to correct this problem. I am a professianal A/C Tech. I think I can fix it if I have the kit for it. My name is Israel, and my e=mail address is Obodun1@aol.com. I will appreciate your help greately. Thanks boss.

Being a 10 year old set you could have one of several problems. My first suggestion from what you have told me is you have broken solder connections on the video board. Unplug the unit. Remove the back. Remove each board one at a time, carefully marking each wire plug/jack assembly for proper reassembly. Resolder all connections on each board and reinstall. This will take some time, perhaps an entire day. When all the boards are complete and you are sure it is assembled correctly test it. If this does not solve your problem you probably have faulty electrolytic capacitors. They can dry out with time and cause what you describe. If you are not familiar with them you may have to hire a tech to replace them. Let me know how you make out. If the soldering doesn't cure the problem I could give you more detail and pictures to help you identify the caps and facilitate their replacement.
Either way let me know how you make out.

Check on the site www.tvrepairkits.com for your model. I believe its one of the oines that has a known shinking screen issue...when that issue surfaces one of the other possible symptoms is the TV will just shut down.

Philips Magnavox Video Shrinks over and over

If you have the following symptoms check the site www.TvRepairKits.com . They have a repair kit for this problem.

Screen shrinks and expands - may or may not correct itself after the TV warms up. After a few days, weeks, or months of having the shrinking/expanding problem you may loose all audio/video but the power light will remain lit!

Works on the following Philips Magnavox sets with chassis number

PTV835, PTV836, PTV840, PTV841, PTV842, PTV843, PTV844, PTV847, PTV853

Or if your Model number is...
