can not get wireless internet to work

  • tompiano Feb 08, 2009

I just purchased this Axim X3 used. I used to have the X5 model, but now I have the wi-fi possibility. I've been able to connect at a few places, such as Starbucks, but can't seem to get connect around my house, which has a wireless network.

How is the unit to be configured?

Check to make sure that the wireless key is set to WEP and not WPA. If it is a WPA, then you won't be able to, as the Dell Axim's don't have enough security certificates to access WPA networks.

Had dell axim51 for years...never was able to connect to wireless or any internet

The way to connect to the internet with you Axim is dependant on the wireless router setup.

for instace if the wireless is set up for WEP encryption there is a ( I think) about 8-10 hex chacters(0-9, A-F) that needs to be entered to connect. You will need to find these on your router.

Other system that are not protected should have no problems. connecting
hit the broken bars and the lower right corner, then hit the turn on button, then click on the site tab, this hould show you what networks are available. It will tell you if it is protected or is an open network.

This unit will only connect to 802.11 B wireless networks.

Dell Axim X5 connecting to Belkin wireless router

What is the model of your wireless router? Does it support the B network your pda is?

also try installing ministumbler (wireless scanner program) to the pda

available on this webpage
http://www.stumbler.net/

scan around with the stumbler it should detect the network, if its set to the wrong band, G only for example it wont be detected set the router to mixed B / G mode.

I have tried and tried and cannot connect to the internet on my dell axim x51. Any solutions?

This depends entirely on how you are connecting to the internet.

If you are using wireless in your house, make sure its not protected with WPA encryption, change the wireless encryption to WEP if you are using encryption. - for wireless wlan you would need a add-on Wireless adapter. if you are using bluetooth, then the settings on the computer - internet connection sharing is probably not turned on.

I can't go into detail now since this is complex and I don't have much information to work from.

this device is not easy or simple to get connected to the internet without connecting it to your computer with a data cable. with a data cable it should work instantly, if not then some settings might need to be changed.

I have a dell axim x5 and it connects to my pc and internet fine when its on the docking station. I just need it to connect to my wireless internet connection wirelessly....

The X5 does NOT have wireless built in. You must add a wireless card (compactflash or SD) They tend to be finicky so do a little research for one that works well with the X5 first before buying.

I want to connect to my wireless Internet connection

If everything is working as it should. All you have to do is turn onyour Wi-Fi. You will then see a popup asking you if you would like toconnect.

You may need to add a compact flash wireless card:

Wireless Connection

Hi Joe, Are you connecting to an Access Point on your home network? Are you connecting to a wireless connection in a cafe or something? Either way, you should be able to connect. All you need to do is tap the small symbol on the bottom right of the main screen (looks like a little staircase) and let it do it's thing. It will bring up another screen (WLan Utility). When it's connected, the arrows to the left of the clock will stop moving. If you want, you can click on the "Setting"button where you can perform more diagnostic functions. You might need to type in a network key, but otherwise, you should be working.

Connectivity/activesync and network issues

When using wireless lan with PPC, there are some experience shere with you. 1. You must do an "Reset" after the first time of installing wireless driver into your DELL AXIM. Otherwise, the driver would not work. 2. Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 only can allow one source to access the internet. It can't access internet via the USB and wireless at the same time. Thus, it is more batter way to leave your AXIM alone instead of insert on cradle when you try to access internet via wireless lan. 3. Some of the wireless's CE driver are based on StrongArm, 206MHz, not PXA250, 400MHz. It will got problem when the wireless try to initiate the link between base station and PPC. Try the following step: (i) Make sure you have been install the wireless driver. (ii) Remove your wireless from CF slot. (iii) start->setting->power->processor select "PowerSave" mode and apply it. (iv) Plug wireless into CF slot (v) If you can get an dynamic IP or access internet, you can repet step 3, but select "Auto" mode. Hoping these information can solve your problem.
