For malvic: doubt you still need this but you don't give your pc an address with this router. Make sure in your tcp/ip properties you have checked obtain ip address automatically.

Hi, If it is a network copier then it may happens. There will be a button that provide you all information about the copier by pressing it. You will find the IP Address of the copier in this information page. Disconnect the copier from system and print the information page by pressing the button. Then connect it again. Open internet explorer put the Present IP address in address space. Then put the new IP address in the configuration page of the copier in internet explorer. Reboot the system and the copier.

I have a dell 2400 and it is giving me an invalid IP address 169.254 PleASE help!

An IP address that begins with 169 usually means you are having some temporary problem with your local (nearest) router or modem finding your IP address automatically from your ISP. If you're at home (nobody else is on the network you use to get out to the 'net), then it's OK to change things around for your own sake. I'm also assuming you're on a broadband network, and not dial-up, or another type of network that may require special IP address settings. If you are, or don't know, it doesn't hurt to call them and find out.
No matter what internet browser you like to use, Windows Internet Explorer's settings control how you 'get out' to the 'net. So, do the following:
  1. Check your Windows Internet Explorer Options to make sure they're set to automatically find an IP address for you. Open 'Internet Explorer'--click on the 'Tools' button, then click on the bottom item 'Internet Options'; once it opens, then click on the 'Connections' tab, then click down where it says 'LAN settings'. Your 'Local Area Network' settings window should pop up. Just make sure 'Automatically Detect Settings' is the ONLY thing checked. AGAIN, IF YOU'RE IN AN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT, DON'T DO THIS, CALL YOUR OFFICE NETWORK TECHNICIAN! Sorry for the CAPS, but that's very important, because it's normal, in fact very important, that the settings any local office net-tech has put there remain the same--and they're often quite different, so he's the authority, not me!
  2. Accept the 'Automatic' settings by clicking 'OK', then 'OK' again, in standard 'Windows' fashion.
  3. Power off your router and modem by unplugging the power cable (not the network cable) from the back of each);
  4. Wait about 10-20 seconds, then power on your router first, waiting a few seconds, then plug in your modem. Let each find their respective IP addresses automatically.
  5. Close out of Internet Explorer, then wait until your router and/or modem LEDs are all on and blinking randomly.
  6. Re-open Internet Explorer. You should be up and running.
Hope this helps.

I have a Buffalo WBMR-G54 ADSL Router. The local IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1. My Medion desktop computer connects connects to my Buffalo router using an Ethernet cable. I use the wireless...

> Zone Alarm free firewall and Avast antivirus have been installed on both computers

Your router is already acting as a "firewall" to block "unsolicited" traffic from reaching the computers on your LAN. So, unless you use Zone Alarm to block "outgoing" connections
(such as a computer-virus would try to make when "calling-home", there's little benefit
to using the Zone Alarm software.

> If I use Internet explorer to connect to http://myname.dyndns.org, Internet Explorer does connect successfully to the network. However, it invites me to enter the username and password for my Buffalo WBMR-G54 router - not for the storage drive.

While you are "forwarding" TCP port 21, you are not "forwarding" TCP port 80 (as used by the 'http://' protocol). So, when you connect from the Internet to your "public" IP-address, it is the router that responds, rather than one of your computers inside your LAN.

IMHO, it is "bad" that your router's web-interface is "exposed" to attacks from the Internet.
Either "forward" TCP port 80, or configure the router to use a _different_ port number for "remote management".

> If I enter the Router user name and password, that allows me to access the Router menus via the Internet, which confirms that my account at DynDns has translated the IP address successfully.

Correct. Hopefully, you're the only one who knows the correct username/password, and there is nobody that is doing "brute-force" attacks on your router, trying to login to "hijack" your router.

> if I use Internet Explorer or FileZilla to access ftp://myname.dyndns.org, I cannot connect to the router

Correct. The 'ftp://' protocol uses TCP port 21, which the router is "forwarding" to one of the computers on your LAN.

> or the storage drive - so I cannot access any of my files remotely.
> FileZilla reports -Status: Resolving address of bob1944.dyndns.org
> Status: Connecting to 78.144.xxx.xxx:21...
> Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message

So far, so good.

Is FileZilla expecting a "specific" content in that "welcome" message, or will "any" response be "close-enough" ?

On a computer on the Internet, open a command-line prompt:

Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Enter FTP bob1944.dyndns.org
Press Enter
Do you get a "connecting" message?
Do you get a "connected" message?
Do you see the "welcome" message?

Note that the FTP protocol usually uses _two_ ports for File Transfer:

* port 21 for "control" (sending/receiving commands/responses)
* a "random" port for "data" transfers (including directory-listings)

It's this "random" port that your router is not forwarding.

However, some FTP-clients (probably including FileZilla) and some FTP-servers
support "passive" mode, where both the "control" and the "data" connections "share" port 21.

So, configure FileZilla to use "passive" mode, and _hope_ that your FTP-server supports "passive" mode.

Intrnet explorer not working

u should have told the problem more broadly.
because i don't know the type of error

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error.
C:\WINDOWS\system\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

Whenever u get this it's almost always an IP address problem. Try renewing your ip address.
1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
2. Click Run... on this menu.
3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).

See it this doesn't fix your problem.

How can I put a code on my linksys?

Open Internet Explorer.
Type 'http://192.168.0.1' (or try 'http://192.168.1.1').
This will connect to the built-in web-server inside the Linksys router.
Click to run the 'Wireless Networking Setup Wizard',
and choose an SSID and choose a password-code.

Unable to access internet through local area network.

hello
in this case first you need to check the ip address by goin on start- run - type cmd -- then type ipconfig , if its giving you a valid ip address then try to access internet and select the option that says automatically detect settings and you will find that option under -- open internet explorer then go to tools- internet option- connections - lan settings
and
if you are not getting any ip address then do a right click on my compuetr icon on your desktop adn go to properties-- hardware- device manager-- network adaptors - and uninstall all the adaptors and then do a right click on network adaptors and then scan for hardware changes .

and the third option is to uninstall Internet explorer 8 adn try with IE 6

kindly rate this solution as well

Downloaded WUSB54GSC and cannot connect to the internet

Please try this:

Connect your PC with a cable to the router. See if you can access the router configuration with Internet Explorer (or firefox...). To do this, you have to know the IP address of the router: it is in the documentation and is by default. You can find the info on the website of Linksys. On mine, the router IP address is 192.168.0.1. I type the IP address in the address bar in Internet Explorer (http://192.168.0.1) and I reach the router login. It may look hard to do, but if you do it once, you will understand the process and be able to troubleshoot your connection in the future.

I think that your IP address is now used by another computer. Once you reach the router configuration, you will be able to reserve your IP address, so no more problem to get to Internet. See the manual for the router login and password.
